The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest 2020
The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest has announced the results of the 2020 competition. Every year, B-LFC solicits opening sentences for bad novels. The “winners” of this competition receive heartfelt condolences from all concerned. Chamblee54 uses B-LFC as an excuse for text to go between pictures every year, like this. There is a possibility of milking two posts out of this thing, in which case a link will be presented here. In July 2025, the BLFC was euthanized.
As a “value added service,” chamblee54 compiles a list of noteworthy author names and locations. This years notables: Lisa Kluber, San Francisco, CA, DJ Hicks, Jr, Manchester, NJ, Jarrett Dement, Eau Claire, WI, Pete Zenz, Middleton, WI, Gideon Gordon, Boston, MA, Edward Covolo, Menlo Park, CA, Candy Mosely, Hydro, OK, Connie Kleinjans, Honolulu, HI, Sue Doenim, England, Gregory Feeley, Hamden, CT, Amy Torchinsky, Chapel Hill, NC, Jack Ciotti, The Villages, FL.

A Sad Event
This content was published August 8, 2023. … It is with the saddest heart that I must pass on the following news. Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection, and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs.Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours. Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded.
Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he was still a crusty old man and was considered a roll model for millions.
Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly dad, Pop Tart.
I am not clever enough to compose the above piece. Credit is hereby given to whoever wrote it. Pictures today are from Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library

0821-0914 – The path journal from last week is available. … The walk today was perineal. I did the standard 36 minutes, with nuisance level dizziness. The show today was EP-24 Manifesting the Muse with Rick on aHardcore History Addendum episode released February 14, 2023. Frederick Jay Rubin was talking to Daniel L. Carlin, who said “I have some weird interests like you do.”
0822-0936 – The walk today was different. Instead of walking laps on the path, I went to one end of the street, turned around, went to the other end, turned around, and went home. It was a 1.29 mile journey in 41:54. The entertainment was The Rise and Fall of Jacklean Davis, New Orleans’ First Black Female Homicide Detective on
Gone South. Jacklean Davis was a police detective in New Orleans. She got in a dispute with a promoter, and wound up in prison. After her release, she said prison wasn’t all that bad.
0823-0922 – The walk today was terminal. I did 51 minutes with no foot problems. My head made up for it by worrying about things that happened 27 years ago. The entertainment was The Continuing Fallout of the Coldplay Kiss Cam on Infamous. A woman was caught kissing her boss on a stadium kiss cam. The woman said it was the first time they kissed.
0824 – The walk today was not interrupted by violence. I did 44:20 with no foot problems. The earbud chatter was Episode 320: Jessica Taylor’s Tattle Battle (Part 1) on Blocked and Reported. @jessesingal is facing a book deadline, and his reaction is to join in as many twitter fights as possible. The one they talked about on this episode was Jason Arday … a controversy that will be forgotten as soon as the next shiny object appears.
Jesse continued … “I don’t know why this activates me so much. I think it’s cuz I love journalism, and I have a lot of respect for actual journalists. We do get [ __ ] on by everyone on all [ __ ] sides, because no one actually likes journalists unless we’re jerking them off, or jerking off their own opinions. But like, go [ __ ] yourself.”
Katie made a comment. I don’t remember who compared Arday to Rachel Dolezal. I think that’s a really apt comparison. I don’t think if Rachel Dolezal had killed herself, people would have been talking about too much media coverage of that story.” … The Arday – Dolezal comparison deserves a bit of thought. Whatever you think about Jason Atta Kwei Arday, you have to admit that his dreadlocks were attractive and well maintained. OTOH, the hair of Rachel Anne Dolezal (now known as
Nkechi Amare Diallo) is tonsorial terrorism.
0825-1009 – This commentary is beginning at 10:09:35. This is the standard time for watches in advertising photos. The walk lasted 49:13/1.61 miles. I went by the railroad tracks twice, and there were no rail cars with graffiti either time. The entertainment was Episode 320: Jessica Taylor’s Tattle Battle (Part 1) on Blocked and Reported. Jessica is an English lady who gets in trouble for saying tacky things. “At one point, she got dogpiled for complaining that Mattel’s autistic Barbie was too pretty.”
JRS was talking about Jessica Taylor opinions: “Schizophrenia is one of the most highly and commonly contested quote unquote disorders of them all, and will likely be totally retheorized in coming years. It has a long and complex history with racism and oppression, and I don’t believe it exists. She keeps doing this thing … it has a long and complex history with racism and oppression. Sure. Which mental health condition doesn’t.”
JRS: “One woman in particular was called Amy. She was in her early 20s when she told me that her parents and local priests had raped and abused her for years, deliberately got her pregnant, and then carried out abortions as ritual sacrifices to Satan.” Some people just like to have a good time.
JRS: There’s a controversy with this Substacker who’s like a genuine Nazi now, after sort of flirting at the edges of it for a while. CRH: Oh, Darryl Cooper. … your other hyper focus of the week.” … JRS has a problem with Darryl Cooper. I have no idea how this surfaced, but it came up shortly after JRS quit whining about Hasan Piker. Both Cooper and Piker are critics of Israel’s war crimes. The Singal/Cooper love fest probably will not amount to anything, but it does make me lose respect for JRS.
0826-1116 – The walk today was republican. It lasted 36 minutes, with no foot problems. The entertainment for the first part of the walk was Billy Strings on This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von. They talked about getting in fights. “You know nature’s violent. … Hand to hand combat is like one of the oldest things there is. It’s the most … natural thing you can do sometimes. Even though, you know, I’m not like all about violence or whatever.”
The fisticuffs talk got old, and I switched to Colonel Dixie: The Murder of Liz Leverett on Gone South. A fast food tycoon paid to have his wife killed. He almost got away with it. People got caught doing other things, and ratted him out.
0827-1244 – The walk today was merchandise. Instead of walking on the path, I did two laps around Perimeter Mall. I went counter clockwise on the lower level, clockwise on the upper level. It took 1:00:22 to do 1.54 miles, with a 21’ gain in elevation.
The podcast today was How Did Roger Avary Write Pulp Fiction? on Tetragrammaton with Rick Rubin. Roger Roberts Avary is a movie industry player, who enjoyed some success. Then RRA killed someone in an auto accident. The time in prison gave him something to talk about.
On today’s show, RRA began to talk about his spiritual ideas, while I was walking through the temple of mammon. As someone wiser than myself said, “The average persons speculation about consciousness…has “the stink but not the weight of his turd.” About this time, I walked by a business selling G1FTED BY GOD t-shirts. The third commandment might have something to say about this.
For more information about my walking problem, read The Path Journal. Pictures today are from The Library of Congress. Arthur Rothstein took the social media picture in September 1942.

Tim Curry
This content was published April 19, 2011. Tim Curry passed away August 26, 2026. … Timothy James Curry was born April 19, 1946. Mr. Curry is an actor, singer, and all around phenomenon. The role that made him a star was Frank-n-Furter in “The Rocky Horror Show.”
Mr. Curry is best known for playing a flamboyant transvestite. His wikipedia page does not discuss his personal life. If you go to google, and type “is tim curry” the top five results are gay, married, dead, alive, died. A visit to some of the sites listed gave no definite answers. One of the sites tried to slip a *trojan horse* into this machine. Some things are better left a mystery.
After Dr. Furter went back to Transylvania, Mr. Curry made rock and roll albums. In 1978, a tour was put together to promote his vinyl debut. The first show in the United States was at the Agora Ballroom in Atlanta GA. I was in the audience.
Riding into town on the 23 Oglethorpe bus, I got to talk to some ladies who were in town for a conference. They were worried about the crime. I tried to reassure them by telling a recent news story. This lady was having breakfast in a downtown hotel, when she put her purse down on the floor. A handgun her husband had given her went off when the handbag hit the ground. The lady’s breakfast companion was hit and killed.
Mr. Curry walked onstage eating a banana, grabbed a stool and turned it upside down. He appeared to be a bit tipsy. This did not affect his performance. Mr. Curry did most of the songs on his album, along with “Celluoid Heroes” by the Kinks. The latter song featured a Garbo impersonation.
Whoever put the band together for this tour had a lot of money. The guitar player played with Lou Reed on “Rock and Roll Animal.” The keyboard player, and musical director, was Micheal Kamen, formerly of the New York Rock and Roll Ensemble. (A song on the Curry album, “Sloe Gin,” was a NYRRE song, “Fields of Joy,” with new lyrics.)
The only song from “Rocky Horror” that Mr. Curry did was “I’m Going Home.” A few people were upset that he did not do “Sweet Transvestite.” He played another Agora show a couple of years later, and reportedly did perform “Sweet Transvestite.”
Tom Waits was scheduled to perform at the Agora the next night. I was wandering through the balcony between shows, and saw Mr. Waits sitting at a table. A bodyguard was standing by, who said that it was just someone who looked like Tom Waits. Pictures today are from The Library of Congress. Coat Of Many Colors
This content was published August 22, 2012. Dolly Rebecca Parton got her eternal Coat of Many Colors August 25, 2026. … I saw a story, and thought about the song, “Coat of Many Colors.” The b side was by Porter Wagoner, “Coat of many sequins.” COMC is about a woman who is too poor to buy her little girl a coat at the store, so she makes a quilt. The other kids make fun of her, but little Dolly knows that the coat is really made of love. The song talks about a story in the Bible. I had heard about the story, but didn’t remember the details. I must have been daydreaming in Sunday School when that story was taught. With the help of google, Genesis 37 appears, as if by magic. Pass the popcorn.
2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.
3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age:
and he made him a coat of many colours.
4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
Ok, hold on for a minute. Israel had at least two wives. The Biblical definition of marriage must be between a man and two women.
The story gets a bit weird here. Joseph has this dream, where he becomes the boss hog brother. The other brothers decide something needs to be done, that Joseph needs to die. Reuben tries to help Joseph, and has a plan to save him. Joseph is stripped of the coat of many colors, and placed in a pit, with no water. Before Reuben can sneak Joseph out of the pit, a camel caravan comes by. Twenty pieces of silver change hands, and Joseph is sold into slavery. The brothers decide to pull a cover up, and make it look like Joseph was dead. Reuben made another sandwich.
31 And they took Joseph’s coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood;
32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said,
This have we found: know now whether it be thy son’s coat or no.
33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son’s coat; an evil beast hath devoured him;
Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.
34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.
35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted;
and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him. … The pictures are from The Library of Congress. Walker Evans took the social media picture in March 1936. Vicksburg, Mississippi. ©Luther Mckinnon 2026 · selah
She Always Carries Jonquils
This content was published August 18, 2011. … I found Archival Atlanta: Electric Street Dummies, the Great Stonehenge Explosion, Nerve Tonics, and Bovine Laws : Forgotten Facts and Well-Kept Secrets from Our City’s Past at the Chamblee library. There are always more stories to be heard.
In the 1840s, the Western and Atlantic railroad wanted to hook up with the Central of Georgia railroad. The spot for the meeting was called Terminus. One idea was to name the town for William Lumpkin, a former Georgia Governor and a railroad executive. Lumpkinville sounded bad in the mouth, and the new town was named “Marthasville,” after the daughter of the Governor. (Martha is buried in Oakland Cemetery.) Few people liked this name, and someone decided that the feminine form of Atlantic was Atlanta. Unlike the state flag, this is unlikely to change.
The new town prospered, and recovered from the unpleasantness of 1864. In 1875, there was a problem with stray cows. The answer was the “1875 Cow Ordinance.” The law required that cows be kept in a pen at night. A fine of two dollars was assessed for every stray cow that was caught.
About this time, there were a few very busy railroad tracks going through downtown. People were getting tired of waiting for the trains to go through. One by one, viaducts were built over the tracks, creating a forgotten ground floor. This was built up into Underground Atlanta in the sixties, which was red hot for a while, then cooled off, and is now so so.
In 1897, J.W. Alexander was the first person in town to own a “horseless carriage.” One day, he decided to take a ride to East Point. A mule objected, and kicked man and machine into a ditch.
It is a rule that all history books about Atlanta have to discuss Coca Cola and Gone With The Wind. There are only so many stories to go around. This book tells of an Alpharetta farmer who bought the Tara set from MGM. He stored it in a barn, the location of which was a secret. Betty Talmadge wanted to buy it, and the price went from $375k to $5k. After a while, the sale was finalized. There was only one problem … the farmer died, and never told anyone where the barn was. Mrs. Talmadge got the money from her husband’s overcoat, went to Alpharetta, and found the barn. The set was moved into another secret location, where it was in 1996, when Archival Atlanta was published.
Sam and William Venable owned Stone Mountain, and had a quarry there. Sam built a large granite house at 1140 Ponce De Leon Avenue, and stocked it with ammunition. He thought a race war was on the way, and wanted to be prepared. One night, a chimney overheated. The roof caught on fire. The explosives in the attic exploded, and took the roof off. The house was repaired, Mr. Venable died, and the house became part of a Lutheran church.
One of the few ante bellum houses in Atlanta is near Grant Park. It was once owned by Lemuel Grant, who donated the land for the park. He stays in a large marble house in Oakland Cemetery now. The Grant Park house was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. John Marsh, in partnership with Boyd Eugene Taylor. After the death of Mrs. Marsh (also known as Margaret Mitchell,) she was known to visit the house. “Margaret just wanders through the house, looking things over. She never talks, and she always carries jonquils. The first night she came I was very shocked. I went out to her grave at Oakland Cemetery the next day. I’d never been to the house before. But I was almost certain of what I’d find. The plot is covered by a bed of jonquils.”

The Least We Can Do
There was a meme on facebook this morning. “R.I.P. Justin Allen 23, Brett Linley 29, Matthew Weikert 29, Justus Bartett 27, Dave Santos 21, Jesse Reed 26, Matthew Johnson 21, Zachary Fisher 24, Brandon King 23, Christopher Goeke 23, and Sheldon Tate 27…. All Marines who gave their lives this week in Iran because of the Israeli war in Iran! There’s no media for them at all… not even a mention of their names. Please honor them by copying and pasting this post. R.I.P. It is the least we can do 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 💜✝️💜.”
The bs detector went off immediately. I googled “R.I.P. Justin Allen 23, Brett Linley 29, Matthew Weikert 29.” I quickly found this: “FACT CHECK: No Marines have died in Afghanistan this year.”
Marine Corps Times had links for the fallen Soldiers and Marines listed in the meme. “Army Sgt. Justin B. Allen, 23, of Coal Grove, Ohio; assigned to 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.; died July 18, 2010, in Zhari, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he was shot by insurgents while conducting combat operations.”
Snopes and Politifact had information about this gimmick. Apparently this meme comes up every now and then, with the name of the current conflict used.
“Please honor them by copying and pasting this post. R.I.P. It is the least we can do. 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 🇺🇲 💜✝️💜” Does it really honor fallen soldiers to past a nonsense image on Facebook? To this observer, this meme is an insult to the memory of these troops. The insult is compounded by emojizing the American Flag, a Purple Heart, and the Cross. Ideologically Successful
0814-0951 – Last week’s path journal, The Tyranny Of Words, is now available. Today’s walk was respectable. After a few days with no foot problems, there was some mild dizziness. I did the standard 36 minutes, with heat increasing by the minute. The commentary today was Peter Asher on The Magnificent Others with Billy Corgan. PA (no middle name) was part of Peter and Gordon, onetime bf-inlaw of Paul McCartney, and an all purpose music industry actor. He had some good stories.
“PA: “It took me a while to like Bob Dylan because I thought, who is this guy who wants to sound like Woody Guthrie? Cuz I was a big Woody Guthrie fan. I first saw Dylan in that light and later it dawned on me that songs he was writing were of a different caliber. But his singing put me off for a while.”
WPC: “Uh, how does that work when your sister goes to your mom and your dad and says, “Hey, by the way, the the Beatle wants to move in.” PA: “Well, my mother actually offered him the guest room, because he was hanging around a lot. I mean, he would come to dinner” … WPC: “This is early like 63, 64. …They’re getting there, but they’re not like what they became.” PA: “It’s sort of love me do time.”
Paul McCartney was staying in a spare bedroom at the Asher house. Mrs. Asher had a music room in the basement. And she said to Paul, “If you ever needed a piano, he could use the piano in that room, which was a small upright piano.” And he did quite often. And on this particular day, John Lennon came over. … They went down to this basement room and after a couple of hours, I guess, called upstairs to see who was around, and asked if I wanted to come hear the song they had just finished.” The song was “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”
PA: “We played the World’s Fair in New York. We played the Unisphere, or whatever they called it. … We had a moat filled with water around the stage. And the police were going, “Oh, don’t worry, we got this all under control. … The minute we came on, all the screaming girls jumped in the moat and swam across to the stage and jumped out on the stage. So, it was incredibly exciting. It was like an early version of a wet t-shirt contest.”
0815-0855 – Today’s walk was without adjectival description. There was mild dizziness, which wore off completely. I walked 1.47 miles in 49:26. I went by the place where I noted an ATT wire on the sidewalk. The wire has been removed.
The entertainment was What Is There To Say About Ariana Grande? on Infamous. Ariana Grande-Butera is an entertainer I have not followed. That said, the show today kept my interest for a half hour. It turns out there have been incidents. There was the donut licking incident, and the suicide bomber at a concert. The two incidents were not connected.
0816-0913 – The walk today was ideologically successful. I did 44 minutes with mild dizziness on the first couple of laps. The show today was EP-01 Imperial Germany vs Nazi Germany on Hardcore History Addendum. Daniel L. Carlin compared the German Army of WW1 to the Wehrmacht of WW2. To DLC, the problem with Hitler’s armies was putting ideology over competence. Many people see this problem today with the military industrial complex. This episode was released October 19, 2017. It may have been intentional when DLC said “ideology trumps merit” for the Wehrmacht.
“The military dictatorship of Germany was able to isolate and quarantine the Kaiser himself, the imperial warlord of Germany. Sit in the corner, play with your maps and your ships, we have a war to conduct. Who’s gonna do that in the Second World War? Who’s gonna cordon off Hitler, and quarantine Hitler from his bad decisions being transmitted to the military? Nobody, because it’s an ideological state. The ideology plays as large a role, or a larger role in everything. Ideology by the way is absolutely key for understanding the second world war at all.”
0817-1030 The walk today was muggy. The dog days of summer are barking. It is hot, with no rain to moderate the carnage. The wind forgot to blow. This might be a problem today. I am doing laundry, and drying the clothes outside. Wind is what dries laundry. Fortunately, I can leave the clothes up as long as I like, which may be tomorrow morning.
The first show today was Madhuri Vijay Reads “Hidden Life” on The New Yorker: The Writer’s Voice. The story was set in India. A young lady is sent to live with an elderly aunt. A cousin, and an old friend of the aunt, play co-starring roles. It should be boring, but was actually fun to listen to.
The second show was Episode 319: If You Haven’t Seen Woke 1, This Episode Won’t Make Much Sense To You on Blocked and Reported. The episode was being recorded when news arrived about Jason Atta Kwei Arday’s death. His demise is assumed to be suicide. This video presents another scenario for the dreadlock toting JAKA. A man, with enormous unkempt dreadlocks, goes to a barber to have them cut off. Soon, the man screams in pain, goes home, and dies. There were black widow spiders living in the dreadlocks, which did not like having their home disturbed.
Later, during a discussion about Woke 1.0, we had this exchange between Catherine Ronan Herzog and Jesse Richard Singal. JRC: “I just think if you were very loudly proclaiming a certain belief not long ago, you should defend your original belief, or explain why you changed your mind, or basically do anything but what a lot of these folks are doing.” CRH: “It shows very little commitment to a value.” JRC: “You’re saying politicians don’t always have strong principles.” CRH: “I think I think maybe I’m saying that. Am I the first person to come up with that?” JRC: “Possibly.”
0818-0913 – The walk today was soporific. The heat is on the way, but I got done early. I did 48:00, with no foot dizziness. The entertainment was EP:58 – Netanyahu Jerks Trump’s Chain on Provoked. This was a good show. Darryl is a former DOD contractor specializing in air defense, so he knows a thing or two. One theme of the show was how screwed we are in Iran, part 420.
0819-0919 – Today was lawn cutting day. The summer is winding down, and this will not need to be done too much more. In December, the lawn will be cut, and the fallen leaves ground up. As usual with the lawn, there was no dizziness.
0820 – The walk today was tubular. I did 47:30 with no foot trouble. I cut out an exposed root. It was on the ground, waiting for someone to trip over it. The show today was EP-24 Manifesting the Muse with Rick on a Hardcore History Addendum episode released February 14, 2023. Frederick Jay “Rick” Rubin was talking to Daniel L. Carlin. FJR is a joy to listen to, with his soothing voice and insights into the human condition. There are tons of quotes, each one of which I could write a term paper about. It will be a problem to sort out the thoughts inspired by this show, and write a few hundred coherent words. Easy writing makes tough reading, and I want people to enjoy reading this.
FJR: “The record that really changed the world in many ways was I Feel Love. That was done by Giorgio Moroder, and the music was completely generated. It wasn’t played by people, although Giorgio did control the parameters of the machine that was making the sounds. It was the first big record that was all generated through a machine.”
Recorded music is a theater of change. Before 1924, recordings were made by playing into a recording horn, which cut a groove into a disc. There have been many upgrades in the technology since then. Some time in the sixties, the technology of the studio became part of the music. Today, it is tough to tell where the medium ends, and the message begins.
DLC: “Tucker Carlson is a deliberate provocateur for money and that drives me crazy. It especially drives me crazy when people consider themselves, and I’m using air quotes here, Patriots.” Tucker Carlson was fired by Fox News in April 2023, two months after this show was released.
FJR: “I was listening to the local public radio station in Hawaii. There was an old Hawaiian man, who maybe was 100 years old. He was out on a boat looking back at his Island. He said, all of the things over the last hundred years that man has built on these islands, none of them were more beautiful than what was here before.” … I have had this thought myself. The thing is, I live in an area that is in the second phase of development. Many of the buildings from the fifties and sixties are being replaced by newer structures. Some of these newer buildings are nicer than the buildings that they replaced.
FJR: “Some people have read it and said, this inspires me to want to make things. That feels really good because it’s fulfilling its promise.” DLC: “ This is your frozen in amber moment.” At this point, the buzzer went off, telling me I could quit walking if I wanted to. The God Of Word
This content was posted July 18, 2017. … The facebook comment started with “Christ had so little regard for … ” I gave into the temptation to comment. “Are you talking about Jesus? Not everyone agrees that he was the Christ.” The internet showed mercy, and only one stranger replied. “I think the bigger picture is being overlooked for semantics here… ” Talking, in or out of vain, is a big deal here.
People like to express opinions about the teaching of Jesus. The source of 99% of these thoughts is the bible. It is a fundamental belief that “the bible is the word of God.” I have disagreed with this notion for a long time. This is not the same as not believing in the existence of God.
I started to type a facebook reply, and then thought better of it. Sunday afternoons are a gift, even if they are uncomfortably hot. It is too fine a day to argue religion on the internet. Before I stopped, one thought did occur to me. If the bible is the word of God, then maybe Yahweh is the God of word. If you saw a mushroom cloud rising over Brookhaven …
Christianism is a religion of beliefs, rather than practices. The idea of getting people to agree with your beliefs is key to the Jesus experience. Many of these beliefs are noted in the bible. It is as if people make a God out of a book. When these high powered thoughts are expressed, then the semantics can get overwhelming.
As for the teaching of Jesus, all we know is what the Council of Nicea chose to tell us. We don’t have very much. What we do have is conveniently selected to fit the agenda of the speaker. What someone says about Jesus tells us more about that person than it does about Jesus.
UPDATE This post starts with by quoting a facebook post. The link no longer works. The former facebook friend blocked me. After George HW Bush died, the ffbf was trashing the former President, using the phrase “I am not going to whitewash history.” I commented that it would be better for his karma to be a bit kinder towards the former President. The ffbf did not like that, and blocked me. Pictures today are from Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library.
