Let’s Talk About

1009-1340 – Emotional Teenage Heir, the path journal from last week, is now available. … Today’s walk was long. I did 3.35 miles in 1:52:11. The original plan was to go to cvs, and get some dental floss. When I got to the cash register, I discovered that my wallet was at home. On the way back, I started taking pictures of halloween decorations.

There were four podcasts today. The first was Let’s Talk About Tom Cruise and Scientology on Infamous. If someone was to write a story about Scientology, it would be dismissed as an impossible dystopian nightmare. The sad news is that S-logy is real.

Flock Won’t Answer This One Town’s Simple Question was the first of two shows from Question Everything. Officials in Tewksbury MA began to have questions about Flock cameras. Flock Safety was evasive, to say the least. More FS information is available at “Deflock, An open-source project mapping license plate readers.” WARNING: If you open the interactive map at Deflock, you might not get anything else done the rest of the day.

About this time, I noticed that my dictated notes were working well today. Using an English alphabet does the trick. See 1008. I also noticed a bit of my own behavior. When I dictate notes, I hold the phone next to my mouth. This is despite using an ear-bud microphone.

The High Stakes Game of Bargaining with the News was the second show from QE. As you may have heard, the anti-trust case against the creation of Skydance has been settled. Reportedly, California Governor Gavin Newsome was one of the people not putting pressure on California Attorney General Rob Bonta to settle the case.

The last story was Rachel Heng Reads “A Very Safe Place” on The New Yorker: The Writer’s Voice. AVSP is about a nine year old boy in Singapore. His father takes in a homeless man, much to his mother’s dismay. Apparently, Singapore has its own problem with “illegal immigrants.” The state uses dystopian methods in dealing with the situation. All four podcasts, in one way or another, are about the techno-dystopia that is life in 2026.

1010-1348 – Today’s walk should not have happened. Atlanta is in post hurricane mode. We are happy it was not any worse, but recovering from the anticipation. I did not expect to walk today, but did. … The plan was to go on an open ended walk around the neighborhood, taking pictures of halloween decorations. Instead, my feet and legs started to fuck up. It got so bad that I decided to go back home, and call it a day. Instead, by the time I got home, the feet were better. I went up the path to another street, and wound up with 1.67 miles in 51:08.

The show today was (Not Just) Another Brick in the Wall on 99% Invisible. 99pi is a veteran of the podcast game, and still delivers good shows. Today was about bricks. There is actually more than meets the eye, with different cities producing different looking bricks. The show centers on Chicago, which is renowned for having ugly bricks. Many buildings will have Chicago bricks on the side, with a front of imported bricks. After the break, the brick nerd was talking about the different kinds of mortar, and how mortar is more than just connective tissue.

1011-1056 – The walk today was rushed. I have roughly a half hour to finish my post, take a shower, pack a lunch, and get to the train station. I am going to the pride parade for the first time in 15 years, and while being late would be socially acceptable, I want to be there when the dykes on bikes roar down peachtree, and I stand in awe of having made it to seventy two queer years.

I did 36:06 with no foot dizziness. However, my knee began to hurt like hell with 9:52 to go. I could have easily quit then, but decided for some damnfool reason to continue. I was listening to a short story about a gang of geriatric Irish bikers. This gave me the courage to continue.

The story was Kevin Barry Reads “Chuck Murphy’s Last Run” on The New Yorker: The Writer’s Voice. There were some splendid quotes, which will be offered here in dictated samsung fashion. The blasted New Yorker paywall will not be defeated.

The “Ibuprofen chapter” of the “Sons of Arthritis” was on their way to spread the ashes of a departed friend. “He was the best of us poor dead Chuck.” Later one of the crew said he was selling his bike. Ned the Impaler told them that if this happened, he would cut his fucking face out. This was the longest speech Ned the Impaler had given since Meatloaf died.

The show for the last lap was Vladimir Putin’s Forkiverse on Search Engine. A podcast about forks, whats not to like. It is certainly something I would give a fork about.

1012-1451 My right knee is in a bad mood. I am taking a day off from the path.

1013-1027 – I was back on the program today, though taking care not to push my knee too far. I finished with 39:42, and 1.04 miles. The show today was Was Libby Holman the Real Norma Desmond? (The Bisexuals, Part 5) on You Must Remember This.

In this episode, we learn that Libby was fond of mixing Dewars scotch with milk. Libby was close friends with Paul Bowles, and his omnisexual wife Jane, aka crippy the dyke kike. The walk was ending when Montgomery Clift was appearing on the Hollywood scene. “Princess tiny meat” was the poster boy for substance-enabled sexual confusion.

1014-0847 – The walk today was abbreviated. I did not have foot problems, but felt otherwise not well. I lasted 24:10. This feeling of unease may have been because of Episode 327: Rock Opera Revolts Over Caucasian Cornrows, on Blocked and Reported.

The first topic discussed was Kelly Carnes, the BROS ED who was fired because of her hair. CRH: “This person says in the memo that Kelly was alerted 5 minutes before the meeting, and that the topic of the meeting was going to be her hair.”

After the fundraising pitch for the show, Katie and Jesse talked about another sexual assault case. CRH: “Jesse, do you remember what you thought about this at the time?” JRS: “Um, no. I’m sure I thought the correct things to think at the time.”

1015-1331 – The walk today was at the mall. After an ugly appointment at the eye doctor, I went walking at Perimeter Mall. It turns out there is plenty of sunlight there, which my dilated eyes did not enjoy. I did 1.34 miles in 43:57, with no foot dizziness. The show that I settled on, after rejecting two, was The Wiregrass: Two Girls, One DNA Match, and a Town That Suspected Its Own Police on Gone South. Two teenage girls were killed in South Alabama. This show goes through the complicated investigation. … For more information on my walking foolishness, see The Path Journal. Pictures today are from The Library of Congress.
