Triangle Building

1024-0735. I’m on Century Boulevard, in front of some one story offices that have seen better days. I’m here to watch the execution of 1800 Century Boulevard, aka the Triangle building.

I drove past the glass triangle hundreds of times, and always thought it was cool. At first, there was a lake in front, with a sign saying not to disturb the swans during mating season. Eventually, the pressures of capitalism prevailed, and a little cluster of offices went up around a much smaller lake.

This is the building where 96 rock had their studio. The 8th floor corner pointing towards Shallowford Road was always lit, with a dj spinning the hits. One day in 1978, there was a man outside giving away tickets to see Neil Young at the Omni. Another time, I was making a delivery, and saw a crowd of people. I was the first person to get there after they ran out of tickets to see Black Sabbath.

At 0740, a police siren sounded, and everyone held their cell phones up. At 0748, the siren went off again. There was an orange fireball in the east corner, a few floors above the former 96 rock. In a few seconds, the triangle building was a cloud of dust. Pictures today are from The Library of Congress.
