Just when you think it can’t get any stranger, the bosslady at Memories Pizza said, on tv, ““If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no.” You might wonder how many gay weddings are going to go to a Michiana pizza parlor to get pepperoni deep dish for their commitment ceremony.

The fun got started when an internet prankster saw that the domain memoriespizza.com was available. This person made a fake web site, complete with soft core porn.

When you go there now, you see this text. “Don’t discriminate.(It’s not nice.) Also, in all seriousness, it’s really dumb to not own a domain name for your business. Especially after you spew stupid shit on TV. (And my web host started getting a lot of abuse reports, and I like them. So.)

The next strange thing to happen is “Jess Dooley a Concord High School golf, softball and basketball coach, was suspended hours after … tweet about arson.” “@dooley_11 Who’s going to Walkerton, IN to burn down #memoriespizza w me? Agree with #FreedomofReligion bill? “That’s a lifestyle they CHOOSE” Ignorant.”

That is one documented threat. By the time the internet heard about it, thousands had been alleged. Twitter was ablaze with snarky comments about tolerance and hypocrisy. The O’Connor’s chose to close Memories Pizza because of all these threats. They may not reopen. Just who is making all these threats? People who can’t serve pizza at their gay wedding?

Dana Loesch is a Glenn Beck associate. She took up the cause of the embattled pizza people. A gofundme page, Support Memories Pizza, was set up. “Purpose: To relieve the financial loss endured by the proprietors’ stand for faith. After you donate please go “like” and combat the leftist hatred expressed on Dana’s page.” The take after 16 hours: $106,545. Miss Dana is on top of the situation @DanaTheBlaze ALERT: Hackers are trying to crack our #MemoriesPizza #Gofundme password.

At least one twitter warrior is suspicious. @Bipartisanism The #MemoriesPizza story is a scam. On the brink of bankruptcy they drummed up phony outrage with GOP host @DLoesch & raised $$ on gofundme. Just why did a South Bend IN tv station go to a small town pizza joint for a televised interview anyway? Inquiring minds want to know. Mike Pence And Lester Maddox

Salon posted a festive piece the other day. The headline: “Indiana’s Mike Pence is starting to look like Lester Maddox — without the spine.” What about the Governor’s breast, thigh, and wing?

Mr. Pence is the media punching bag of the moment. In a few days, someone else will screw up, and the nabbering classes can pick on someone else. The riffraff law will be lawyered out in the courts.

The question here is the connection to the former Georgia Governor. It turns out to be a rhetorical gimmick. In the first paragraph, author Joan Walsh essentially repeats the headline. “… even before Pence began to look like a 21st century Lester Maddox — without the spine.” This is the last time Lester is mentioned. He is used as a bald headed Honey Boo Boo.

We have gotten to the place where prejudice against perceived racists is enthusiastically accepted. It is the new McCarthyism, with guilt by association, and shadowy accusers. In an ironic touch, this new crusade is connected with homophobia. Here is a thought about that from a previous post.

Homophobia is compared to anti-racism. In both cases, the accuser has a set of standards. If the accused does not meet those standards, then the accused is considered fair game for abuse. The accused and the accuser may not agree on these standards. That does not matter. If someone wants to make the accusation, then they will, and will feel righteous about doing so.

It is frequently speculated that the homophobe is secretly gay. The need to be heard badmouthing gays stems from a perceived need to prove heterosexuality. Could this be the case with the anti racist? Maybe the anti-racist is secretly afraid that he/she might be a racist. The “calling out” of others, for perceived racism, is an effort to overcompensate for his/her own shortcomings.

Getting back to Lester, it is ironic that he is this famous forty four years after his term in office ended. There is no shortage of bad things to say about Mr. Maddox. However, Georgia survived having both him, and smiling Jimmy, as Governor. It is highly unlikely that anyone will know who this Pence person is in forty four years.

The second part of this feature is a previously published piece about Lester Maddox. PG was twelve when Lester was elected, and has many memories of the four years that followed. The post goes into some of the mixed feelings, and tells a couple of stories. Pictures are from “The Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library”.

N50-107_az

There has never been a politician like Lester Garfield Maddox. He was elected Governor of Georgia (with help of a quirk in the state constitution) in 1966. PG was 12 at the time, and saw the spectacle of the next four years with amazement.

Before we get started on this, we should remember a couple of things. Lester Maddox became notorious when he shut down his restaurant, The Pickrick, rather than serve a black customer. He was a segregationist, which means he did not want black people to have the same rights as white people. Looking back for 2010, it seems incredible that civil rights legislation was needed 46 years ago, so that 30% of Georgia could eat in a restaurant. PG does not condone the actions and attitudes of Lester Maddox, or the people who supported him.

There is style, and there is substance. While the substance of Lester may have been horrible, the style was a sight to behold. He could ride a bicycle backwards, and did so whenever a crowd was there to watch. (PG saw this at halftime of the Peach Bowl.) He was on The Joe Pyne Show and The Dick Cavett Show, and walked off of both.

This section from a previous post tells a bit of the story. The Governor was speaking to a group of reporters. He was announcing the appointment of a Black man to a Selective Service Board.. The reporter said it was the first Black man to serve on a draft board since reconstruction. What did the Governor think about this? The Governor said “Gee”

The screen returned to the Channel Five newsroom. The men at the desks were all laughing. The weatherman looked up at the camera and said “That’s a tough act to follow”
Whatever you might say about Lester Maddox…and there is no shortage of bad things to say…there has never been a public official that entertaining. As for being a tough act to follow, the next Governor was Jimmy Carter. As for the weatherman, PG saw him in a parking lot once. It was raining heavily. The “Gray Ghost” looked at PG with an ironic smile, as if to say “I am sorry”. The weatherman, Guy Sharpe, is on the right in the picture below this post. He is signing a book.

In 1970, the Governor of Georgia could not succeed himself. Lester ran for Lt. Governor, and spent the next four years feuding with Governor Jimmy Carter. Lester ran for a second term in 1974, and was trounced by George Busbee. (The slogan : “Elect a work horse, not a show horse.”) When Jimmy ran for President in 1976, Lester made a point of badmouthing Jimmy. In his own way, Lester Maddox helped Jimmy Carter get elected President.

There is a youtube video of the appearance of Lester on the Joe Pyne show. (Another guest that night was Culius Jeezer, who claimed to be 2000 years old). A video of the time Lester was on the Dick Cavett show has not emerged. Another guest that night was Truman Capote. After Lester walked off the show, Mr. Capote said, in his own inimitable way, ” I ate at his restaurant one time, and all I have to say is, it was not finger licking good”.

Presumed POTUS candidate Hitlery Hillary Clinton has a twitter account. The address is @HillaryClinton. She has 3.04M followers for her 141 tweets. She is only following 9 accounts, including @billclinton, and @ChelseaClinton.

Miss Hillary does not follow @MonicaLewinsky. Miss Lewinsky recently extended her 15 minutes with an invigorating TED talk. (“Tyler’s tragic, senseless death was a turning point for me. It served to recontextualize my experiences…”) The twitter profile for Miss Monica reads “social activist. public speaker. contributor to vanity fair. knitter of things without sleeves. #clickwithcompassion.”

@HillaryClinton has a festive profile. “Wife, mom, lawyer, women & kids advocate, FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState, author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, TBD…” PG wonders if this “glass ceiling cracker” business qualifies as cultural appropriation.

The concept of putting FLO (first lady of) in front of state abbreviations can create some fun acronyms. Some of the best are FLOCO, FLOGA, FLOHI, FLOID, FLOKY, FLOLA, FLOMI, FLOMO, FLONE, FLONY, FLOOR, FLOPA, FLOWI, FLOWA, FLOGU, and FLOVI.

The picture for this twitter account is lively. The black and white image shows Miss Hillary looking at a smart phone. It is not known what account she is accessing. She is wearing sunglasses, and a wedding ring. The crop line is at mid torso, so we don’t know if Miss Hillary is wearing a dress, or one of her famous pantsuits. The lighting conditions in this picture make a similar judgment difficult.

One afternoon, PG was in the Kroger parking lot, waiting on his brother GP. This is a no-name Kroger, unlike Disco Kroger or Murder Kroger. It is on Buford Hiway, and has a very bad parking lot. Parking Danger Kroger doesn’t have the poetic allure of Murder Kroger.

On this fine afternoon, PG was almost two thirds of the way through Carsick: John Waters Hitchhikes Across America. The 66.6% number has nothing to do with pages. This book has three parts. One is a fantasy of good rides. The second is a fantasy of bad rides. This is the two thirds in question. The last part is the real rides. Trusting John Waters with reality is questionable.

On page 173, PG stumbled onto a good quote. JSW is riding with “Bristol,” an out of control animal rescue activist. This is probably not Sarah Palin’s daughter. At one point, a dog is seen feasting on roadkill, and a rescue begins. Once the critter is in the vehicle, JSW writes “I can see the stringy shreds of putrified fox meat still caught in the beast’s mouth.”

There had been other dandy quotes. Since PG reads to have fun, and is not writing a term paper, the majority of them will have to lie unmolested in the text. PG tried to dig up a few, like this on page 74. “Gasping for air, Buster returns the favor, twisting his long tongue around hers like a lasso and then deep throating it down to her tonsils with expert sword-swallowing, gagless oscillation.”

On page 190, the bad rides are hitting rock bottom. (Spoiler alert) “Randy’s dick seems to be leaking some kind of fluid, and its definitely not sperm. I scream for my life.” JSW is killed, and goes to the Pearly Gate. Art Linkletter is hanging out with G-d. JSW goes to hell.

There are other unmentionables in this story. The possibility arises that a freshly murdered JSW will wind up in Leakin Park, made famous recently in Serial. On page 163, a driver is said to smell worse than B.O. Plenty. This refers to a character in the Dick Tracy stories. Since comic book drawings are odor free, this man probably was not known for his poor hygiene.

This post needs a bit more text. We will apply the page 123 meme. “Before I can even attempt to pull the gun away, Stew gets a stunned look on his face and then projectile-vomits. I grab the wheel, he grabs it back. The stench of his puke covering his side of the windshield seems to give him no pause.” Pictures today are from “The Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library”.

Twelve years ago, Iraq teetered on the edge of regime change. It was obvious what was going to happen, at least at first. Amerika was going to storm in, kill a bunch of people, and take over.

In post 911 Amerika, the military industrial complex saw an opportunity for plunder, unrivaled since the fall of the Soviet Union. The stories of WMD would infect the body politic with fear of a mesopotamian madman. Saddam Hussein wanted Iran to think he has wonder weapons, and did not think Amerika was serious about regime change. We all make mistakes.

In the twelve years since the time of shock and awe, trillions of dollars have gone down the drain, dragging the mighty Amerikan economy along into the sewers of bankruptcy. One of the oldest civilizations of mankind was reduced to hiding, from neighbors, behind concrete barricades. They fought the conquerors with bombs triggered by garage door openers. Thousands of women and children have been murdered. The WMD were never found. This is a repost.

Pacific Trash Vortex

Posted in GSU photo archive, Undogegorized by chamblee54 on March 16, 2015

It was an ISM…internet synchronicity manifestation. There was a much praised video about a plastic bag, that winds up in the Pacific Trash Vortex. The bag has a voice (supplied by uberkraut Werner Herzog), and goes looking for it’s “maker” (silently played by an unknown actress).

The bag has a remarkable existence. First, it is used to carry tennis balls, then dog food, then to pick up the by product of dog food. This is remarkable in itself… the typical krogerbag, if it doesn’t get thrown away on arrival at home, will not be used for more than one chore. But this is a special bag.

After the secondary canine duty, the bag is thrashed. Somehow, it escapes from the municipal destination, and begins a wind propelled odyssey in search of “my maker”. After a while, it is on the beach, and the wind takes it into the ocean. It floats in the sea, has pieces bitten off my non nutrition conscious fish, and heads off for a legendary garbage nirvana.

Before long, the bag is in the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch”. The GPGP is a bit north of Hawaii, and west of California. The bag movie was filmed in Wilmington, N.C. You should not think about this too long. At any rate, the bag is not happy in the GPGP, and moves on to greener pastures.

The feature linked above has a good description of the GPGP. “In the broad expanse of the northern Pacific Ocean, there exists the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre, a slowly moving, clockwise spiral of currents created by a high-pressure system of air currents. The area is an oceanic desert, filled with tiny phytoplankton but few big fish or mammals. Due to its lack of large fish and gentle breezes, fishermen and sailors rarely travel through the gyre. But the area is filled with something besides plankton: trash, millions of pounds of it, most of it plastic. It’s the largest landfill in the world, and it floats in the middle of the ocean.”

The next day, PG goes to a site called Listverse. The feature of the day is “top ten places you don’t want to visit”. Number ten on the list is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. GPGP is either the size of Texas or twice the size of the lower 48. It is a collection of debris, largely plastic, from the world. It is held in place by a gyre. This is a place where swirling ocean currents bump up against each other.

A visit to google led to a trip to wikipedia. There is an article at Wikipedia about GPGP that is an almost verbatim source for listverse. This takes recycling a bit too far. There is also a band called Pacific Trash Vortex. The link is to MySpace, which apparently is never going away.

Plastic is a petroleum by product, and has many benefits to our world. It’s durability is one of them, and also one of it’s negatives. (The fact that plastic is so cheap to make is another.) A plastic bag cast off into the environment simply does not disappear. Fish eat them, thinking it is good food, and die of starvation. (Does this affect the food chain?) While the film about the plastic bag is an exaggeration, the fact is that plastic is forever.

The poster is from Treehugger.com. This is a repost. The vintage photographs are from the “Special Collections and Archives,Georgia State University Library”.

Today is 3-14. It is a monday, and 314 are the first three digits of pi (affectionately known as π ). It is a math thing, the number you multiply a diameter by to get the circumference. When your grammar school math teacher told you about π, she probably used 3.14, or 3 1/7. (PG went to school when Hewlett and Packard were still in the garage.)

You might also have heard the formula for the area of a circle, the racy π r squared . This means that you multiply π by the radius ( half the diameter, a line from the border to the center point), and then multiply the whole contraption by the radius again. The formula has a funny sound to it. Pie are not square, cornbread is square, pie are round. Like Sly Stone says, all the squares go home.

According to wikipedia, π seems to have been known as early as 1900 b.c. The pyramids of Egypt have a π based feature. The Greek letter π is the first letter of the Greek word περίμετρος (perimeter) . This was determined OTP.

The pyramid- π function is fairly simple. The total length of the four sides, at the base, will be the same as the height of the pyramid, times two, times π. PG likes to make model pyramids. They are 6″ tall, and the base sides are 9 3/8″. The combination of these four sides is 37 1/2″. If you multiply 6x2x3.14, you get 37.68″ The .18″ is because of a measuring error.

A lady named Eve Astrid Andersson has a page of her website dedicated to π. The only trivia question that PG understood was the first one…1. What is the formal definition of pi? …the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter // 3.14159 // the radius of a unit circle // the surface area of a sphere of diameter 22/7 // a delicious dessert, especially if it contains cherries.

There is the football cheer from M.I.T. ” Cosine, secant, tangent, sine 3.14159 // Integral, radical, u dv, slipstick, slide rule, MIT!”

In 1998 a movie titled π was released. It caused brain damage in 3.14% of those who saw it. Perhaps it is not a coincidence that 1998 = 666 x 3.

π has been calculated to over five million digits. The second part of this feature are a few of those numbers. There are 82 characters in each line. This feature shows π extended to 10,165 digits. This is .02% of five million. The last 3 digits are 666, in bright red. The pictures today are from ” The Special Collections and Archives,Georgia State University Library”.

This is the annual repost of the π day feature. Today is the ultimate π day. It is 03-14-15. The magic moment is at 9:26:53, when the first 11 digits of π will be in a row. Some purists say that there should be a zero in front of 9, as in 9:00 am, but some people will quibble over anything. The first five digits of this magic number will be represented, and this is what is important.

As with so many blogging misadventures, it started with a tweet. Blue Gal/Fran retweeted Bougie Black Girl ‏@BougieBlackGurl Mar 11 Memphis, TN ~ “White privilege is when White people like Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski & Bill Kristol blame Black people for Whites being racist.”

Let us break this down. Since PG does not watch tv, and has little awareness about Joe Scarborough, this is going to be tough. This has something to do with a handful of OU fratbois. They had the bad judgement to be video recorded singing the n-word, among other delicacies, on a train. Some “White people” went on a tv show, and made a connection between rap music and the fratboi video. When BBG gets her hands on it, we have “…blame Black people for Whites being racist.”

Since when do three talking air heads, one of whom is Jewish, speak for the race of white people? Ok, so someone with pale skin said something dumb on tv. Now, you have the latest definition of “White privilege.” At what point do the concepts of privilege and racism cease to mean anything?

The seminal tweet was sent out two days ago. By now, it is probably obsolete. In those two days, the national debt increased by an estimated $2,646,575,342.46. An estimated 13,561,643 metric tons of Global Carbon Emissions joined the atmosphere. There are many other issues more important than the singing of idiot fratbois, but not as much fun to talk about.

The figure on the national debt is based on an article at Forbes magazine. The title: Stop And Smell The Roses: Final 2014 Federal Deficit Fell…Big Time. The figure quoted above is based on the lower of the two numbers in this quote. “As the report shows, the actual 2014 deficit was $483 billion, $3 billion less than what the Congressional Budget Office estimated a week ago. For the record, $483 billion is $197 billion below the almost $680 billion deficit recorded in 2013. It’s also $930 billion, that is, close to $1 trillion, less than the largely recession-caused $1.4 trillion deficit in 2009.” As Malcolm X said “”If you stick a knife nine inches into my back and pull it out three inches, that is not progress.” Malcolm X will make another appearance in this post.

Bougie Black Girl does not promote herself as a statistician or scientist. “I’m a African American woman who loves to empower Black women” Her twitter product today is mostly concerned with Creflo Dollar, who is certainly a worthy target.

The fun starts at her website. Get Your Malcolm X with a cameo appearance from Martin Luther King Jr. prepaid Mastercard/Visa cards Or consider 30 Light skin Privileges Light Skin Blacks have that Dark Skin Blacks Don’t. You don’t say! UPDATE!!! Two White QVC hosts mock a Black Woman’s natural hair and humiliate her on TV. Pictures today are from “The Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library”.

I have wondered about this. I have not read the report I imagine the city has its side to this story. If you go into any institution with the intention of finding racism, you are likely to find it. ~ from you are what you wear to you are what you share ~ KimKierkegaardashian ‏@KimKierkegaard Depression is my nature, that is true, but thanks be to the power who nevertheless also gave me this consolation: great makeup & hair. ~ KimKierkegaardashian retweeted ‏@keenanharris today i told my philosophy professor about thr @KimKierkegaard account, and i dont think ive ever seen someone look more disgusted ~ That sounds good in theory. In real life it can be tough. ~ Isn’t ice cream what they used in Two Girls One Cup? ~ @JesusIsAJerk Madonna so old I remember her twerking for the squad at the last supper ~ spell check suggestions for twerking: tweaking, networking ~ If you are using a special coupon or promo code, include it here. Or, indicate if the coupon must be printed and presented in person. Is the coupon transferable? If so, encourage recipients to share the offer with friends and family to maximize the viral effect of the coupon. ~ Sometimes black and white tells the story better. ~ @JesusIsAJerk They say abstinence is 100% effective for birth control. Tell that to my mom ~ On a lighter note, I hope this policy works better than the zero visibility policy for alcohol. ~ Do we really want to tell people when family meetings are? Especially when they are not , nod wink, supposed to know where they are being held. ~ At $5.50 that was the most I paid for a show at the Music Hall. It was not that good. It was four solo musicians, rather than a band. Mr.Corea twisted dials on his synthetics box and made faces. The band played for barely an hour. They had acoustic instruments set up on stage but did not use them. ~ If you can’t say anything good, don’t say anything at all. ~ Johnny Isakson and David Perdue signed the letter. #47traitors ~ “Black Pussy does not condone or endorse any sexism, racism, ageism, violence, or any other douchebaggery that has been spoiling the party since the party started. If you are offended by the band’s name, please refer to the following video .” ~ The post is pure speculation. I could be wrong. ~ pictures are from “The Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library”. ~ selah

Roman Hans, the maestro behind World Class Stupid, liked a couple of chamblee54 pictures on facebook. PG thought it was good manners to go by WCS and like something. PG tries to have manners, even if they are obsolete.

The first post was a screen shot of something called “what song sums up your entire life.” The picture did not have a link, so Mr. Google was consulted. The intertubes like to put up quiz thingies. Apparently the ideas are not subject to copyrights, so the copycats post another version within milliseconds. You can get a second opinion, a third, and a fourth.

A “bitecharge” quiz, What song sums up your entire life?, was the screen shot at WCS. The front page has a picture of Kelvin Cochran, with the all caps question “DO YOU THINK CHRISTIANS CAN BE FIREFIGHTERS? CLICK HERE TO SAY YES! Did you know that the 3 wise men were firemen? The Bible said they came from a far. If you are not a southerner, you might not think that was funny.

The bitecharge test is eight multiple choice questions. Number eight is typical. “Which exercise would you prefer? Running, Yoga, Bicycling, Ball sports, Swimming” “Your song is: “Like a Rolling Stone”” There is an ad, under the “Tweet this” badge. “Is He Cheating On You? Enter His Email Address. Find Pics & Profiles From 70+ Social Networks”

The Quibblo version was created by Call_Me_Kira , whose location is L’s closet, Kanto region of Japan, AU. The show has six multiple choice questions. Number six: Which of these choices best describes you? I need to go to school and get my degree, Make a lot of money working from home, I would love to find a new game to play, I’d like to earn extra money by taking surveys online. Actually, that is number infinity sign. When you click on a choice, you go to a page telling you how to make money working at home. The real number six has about a dozen options for “What song do you THINK sums up your love life?” Maybe the singalong by Marcel Marceau. The answer, once you get past the auto start news story about the Kardashians, is “Love the way you lie- Rhianna”

GoToQuiz features unabashed datamining, with some exceptions. “8. Where do you live? In the country, In the city, In a cave, Homeless. 9. Have you ever been bullied? Yes, No, I am a bully.’ The answer is “Perfect”, by Pink.

The last one of these is by quotev. The advertising is from Southwest Airlines, and American Express, which is an improvement over Kelvin Cochran. The result is “New Perspective-Panic! at the Disco.” Pictures are from “The Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library”.
