This is your monday morning reader for today. I wonder what scandals the media will be flogging this week? They always serve as a distraction from the more important stories. · I keep a document on my desktop. I copy the links I visit, and random thoughts from the week. On monday morning I publish it, along with historic photographs from the library of congress. Here is this week · Would anyone who is not marching Sunday like to meet up somewhere to watch the parade? I would suggest the south part of the route, around Emory Midtown Hospital. Anything North of North Avenue is going to be very crowded. · ZIONISM versus BOLSHEVISM A STRUGGLE FOR THE SOUL OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE. · Do “religious folks” still care about gambling? It seems like the acceptance of gambling is nearly complete. The vast sums of advertising money spent by gaming companies is having an impact. Discomfort with gambling is one part of my Baptist upbringing that never went a away · “I can’t believe what you say because I see what you do.” This item is from a song written by Ike Turner. Ike knew about being a no-good man. Tina looks better in a short skirt than James Baldwin. · This post is about what Chamblee54 posted on October 7 in 2023, 2024, and 2026. The word Genocide is not used. Learning about this tragedy from Senator JD Vance is a spooky bit of synchronicity. · @MrPitbull07 Telling an eighty-year-old woman to “check the portal” for serious biopsy results is cruelty disguised as digital efficiency. My 82-year-old aunt had a lung biopsy done two weeks ago. The doctor told her they’d have the pathology report ready within five business days. Friday afternoon rolled around. No call. · She dialed the clinic’s main desk, her voice shaking with anxiety. The receptionist cut her off before she could finish explaining: “Doctor doesn’t give results over the phone anymore. All lab findings are automatically released to your MyChart patient portal.” My aunt said, “Sweetheart, I don’t have a computer. I have a landline on my kitchen wall. Can the doctor just tell me if I have cancer?” The receptionist sighed into the receiver: “It’s hospital network policy. We can’t bypass the portal. You’ll have to have a family member create an account and view the file.” My aunt spent an entire seventy-two-hour weekend sitting in her recliner, gripping her reading glasses, convinced she was dying. · I drove out to her house on Monday morning, set up a profile on my laptop, and pulled up the records. The result was benign. The pathology report had been uploaded four days earlier. A doctor spent three minutes clicking an upload button, and an elderly woman endured four days of sheer psychological terror because the hospital decided a phone call was too expensive. Since when did delivering medical news become a self-service task? · This is 1753 words about walking, and listening to podcasts. Being a skeptic is still legal, at least for some topics. · @chamblee54 I read S-wolf when I was 24, and thought it was the greatest thing ever. I re-read it when I was 58, and wondered what I saw in it 34 years earlier · @tracewoodgrains What did you dislike about it at 58? … I did not dislike SW (Steppenwolf, not Sex Worker) as much as not think it was fantastic. There was a passage between “Haller” and “Paul” … not sure of the names … that was a mind blowing revelation in 1978. In 2012, I read past it without realizing it was there. … In 1970, this girl from my high school went downtown to the Regency Hyatt House. She went up to the 22nd floor balcony, in the atrium lobby. She jumped over the railing and fell to her death, leaving a copy of Steppenwolf behind on the railing. · “Your piece on Kael and Broughton is rife with misinformation and judgements galore and unbelievably badly written. Get a life and stop spreading falsehoods. And next time you put your fingers to a keyboard do your due diligence!” · “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Benjamin Franklin. – The “essential liberty” is the ability of governments to levy taxes. · Pictures today are from Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library The social media picture was taken July 18, 1953. “Trust Company of Georgia barbeque for African-American employees”
