There was a bit of unpleasantness on my facebook page yesterday. “i wonder how many court cases in fulton county are being put on hold while the DA is prosecuting whatshisname” … “If it’s a crime in Georgia to claim that an election was “stolen”, when exactly is Stacy Abrams getting indicted?” … “never, because she was correct and had the facts to prove it, as this court case shows. Not hard to understand. Also because your whole premise is wrong. It is not a crime to claim an election was stolen. It is a crime to attempt to steal an election while claiming an election was stolen and trying to use illegal means to change the outcome. Try watching something other than FOX so you have a clue what the case is about.”
As you may have heard, Fulton County indicted Donald Trump, and 18 other people, on charges related to the 2020 election. The indictment was expected. The Fulton County DA, Fani Willis, seems to be enjoying her moment of glory.
Shortly before the charges were announced, a story was leaked to the press about some crooked business in Coffee County. This is a rural county below the gnat line, east of I-75 in pre-Florida. While seeing the story get more attention than it deserved, I got a vague sense of overkill. It seems entirely possible that Fulton County is going too far with the Trump case, and is going to blow it. It is time to move on with my own IANAL existence, and let the courts deal with this disaster.
Fulton County is devoting a lot of resources to this case. Many less glamorous cases are possibly being put on hold as a result. I am not smart enough to know whether this is best or not, but I have an IANAL instinct that it is not.
Which brings me to the second comment in the thread above. I have written about Miss Stacey too many times. (01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14) Suffice to say that I am not a fan. Miss Stacey deserves little credit for the increased Democratic votes in 2020. OTOH, two wrongs don’t make a right. Stacey’s big mouth does not justify the foolishness of Donald J. Trump, Fani Willis, or Coffee County. The best response to a comment like this is to like/don’t-like/ignore, and move on.
Unfortunately, the person who made comment three felt obligated to join in. Before going any further, we should note my relationship to commenter two and commenter three. Two is someone I have known for 30 years. While I don’t agree with him all the time, I have considerable respect for his intelligence, integrity, and willingness to think for himself. Three is someone I have never met in person. He participates in an online poetry event that I visit. He accepted my friend request three days ago. If this turns into a playground quarrel, it is obvious who I am going to favor. UPDATE: Commenter three chose to unfriend me on facebook.

At the 44 minute mark of a recent debate, Karen Handel (KCH) and Jon Ossoff (TJO) were having a bit of a skirmish. The question (41:34) had been put to TJO: How can you be independent in Congress, when you will need Democratic Party help in a re-election. TJO rambled a bit, and did not answer the question. Instead, he attacked KCH. The attack centered around the PR disaster at the Susan B. Komen foundation, which KCH played at central role in.
The two sparred for a few minutes. PG expected someone to call the other a poopyhead, which they would reply to by saying you have cooties. KCH said something, and TJO interrupted. “It’s a simple question, with all due respect” “With all due respect, do not interrupt me”
This may be the one moment of this nightmare election that captures two personalities. KCH is not above interrupting, and using shady argument tricks. It was her moment to take control of the situation. Most politicians are hypocrites.
PG got a screen shot, which is posted above. Look at the eyes. KCH is mean. She is tired of this silly little boy. TJO is looking at his shoes. The embarrassment about being out badded by his opponent is evident. KCH won the momentary power game. She easily *handled* TJO.
Maybe people will quit saying “with all due respect.” WADR is the new “bless your heart.” On election day, KCH won , with, or without, due respect. It is not known what the turning point was, or if TJO ever had a serious chance. Most 6th district voters are happy to see a noisy campaign end. Pictures today are from The Library of Congress.
This is a repost from 2017. After losing to KCH in 2017, TJO ran for the Senate in 2020. The slogan of his Senate campaign was not a vulgar joke about his name. TJO won the election.
KCH lost elections for the House in 2018 and 2020. KCH then became President/CEO at Carroll Tomorrow. The current Interim President / CEO at Carroll Tomorrow is Brian Dill.

This is a repost from 2019. In 2022, Stacey Abrams was defeated in her second attempt to be elected Governor. … Stacey Abrams went hardcore bless-her-heart in the New York Times yesterday. The opening line was a doozy. “In the mid-1960s, when my father was a teenager, he was arrested. His crime? Registering black voters in Mississippi.”
This is news, to anyone who has been following Ms. Abrams. Her campaign bio does not mention this incident. Nor does at least one article from Mississippi. Google is little help. The arrest story may turn out to be true. Why it is only turning up six months after the election?
PG asked the readers at GeorgiaPol if they knew anything about an arrest. There was an illuminating response. “Being obsessed with Stacey Abrams, you might have missed some of these other Georgia stories: – Georgia governor postpones Los Angeles trip as film industry protests … ” The pundit listed seven more news items. None of the items concerned an arrest for voter registration.
The New York Times did not fact check the article. Ms. Abrams dropped a few more whoppers into the order, to go with the fries and Pepsi.
“Although “exact match” lacks the explicit racial animus of Jim Crow, its execution nonetheless betrayed its true purpose to disenfranchise voters of color. Georgia’s secretary of state held 53,000 voter registrations hostage under exact match last year, 70 percent of which came from black voters, who made up only around 30 percent of Georgia’s eligible voters.” (Voters are registered by the counties, not the state.)
“We demonstrated the immensity of the problem, yet opponents to voting rights responded with the specious claim that increased turnout was somehow proof that no suppression had occurred.” (No link was provided, to show who made this claim.)
“The state’s top elections official, former Secretary of State Brian Kemp himself — functioning simultaneously as the scorekeeper, referee and contestant in the gubernatorial election — was caught revealing to supporters that he was “concerned” about record absentee ballot requests from voters of color.” (Votes are counted by the counties, not the state.)
“Across the country, voter purges employ an easily manipulated “use it or lose it” rule, under which eligible voters who exercised their First Amendment right to abstain from voting in prior elections can be booted off the rolls.”
The last item was a spectacular show of sophistry. The First Amendment mentions religion, press, speech, assembly, and petitioning the government. Yesterday, logicians at GeorgiaPol and facebook contend that not voting, and keeping your registration, is covered by the right to free speech. If Stacey says so, it must be so. This is what some people like to argue about.
The uncritical adoration of Stacey Abrams by the press is part of the problem. She receives little of the scrutiny that most politicians face. If Ms. Abrams is going to grow as a leader, she needs to be taken seriously. This includes questioning her rhetoric. Don’t expect The New York Times to cast the first stone. The yankee media adores poor widdle Stacey, and her sad tale of having the election stolen through “malfeasance, misfeasance and mismanagement.” Will long suffering Georgia voters continue to feel the magic?

This is a repost from 2021. … Georgia Democrats did not do well in the recent controversy over voting access. The over-the-top rhetoric makes it difficult to believe anything they say. “Jim Crow on steroids” takes crying wolf to a new low. Democrat media enablers lost control cheering them on.
Maybe it started August 12, 2017. Candidates for Governor were speaking. When Stacey Evans spoke, audience members started to chant “trust black women.” One of the other candidates, Stacey Abrams, defended the disruption. “I do not believe that you silence those who feel they are voiceless, because the minute we do that we are no better than those who tell people they can’t kneel in protest.”
What happened next is well known. Miss Abrams won the Democratic primary, and almost won the November election. Her number one campaign issue was voter suppression. When Miss Abrams lost the November election, she claimed that the election was stolen. This claim was uncritically accepted, and repeated ad nauseam.
After the election, a rally was held inside the State Capitol. State law clearly forbids disruptive rallies inside the Capitol. (O.C.G.A. 16-11-34.1 (g)) State Representative Nikema Williams decided that the law did not apply to her, and got arrested. Rep. Williams was praised for this arrest, and elected to the US Congress in 2020.
Republicans legislators proposed a law governing voting access. Democrats went into hysterical disruption mode. A rally inside the Capitol was dispersed, but not before Rep. Park Elizabeth Cannon was physically removed by authorities.
A few weeks later, Rep. Cannon succeeded in getting herself arrested. SB 202 passed, and Governor Brian Kemp decided to sign it immediately. Rep. Cannon got into a confrontation with State Troopers outside the Governor’s office, and got herself arrested. This arrest was over a ceremonial bill signing. Rep. Cannon may be the first legislator in history to get arrested at a bill signing.
What does all this say about the Democrats? They do not seem to be interested in the orderly process of running the state. The Democrats think it is proper to engage in juvenile confrontations.
