Here is a piece I wrote about this. I prefer WBTS, because it is a more accurate description of the conflict. When the colonies declared independence, there was no thought given to an all powerful federal government. The conflict of what powers go to the federal government, and which powers go to the state, is one of the defining controversies of our history. When the southern states seceded, the concept of the federal union was not nearly as strong as it it today. Today we take for granted the concept of the strong federal government, with the states being regional governing districts. IMO, we are better off as a federal union. If the south had won the war, we would have wound up like 18th century Europe… a collection of small nations that were constantly at war with one another.

If a person is good on other issues, and someone told you that he was a “racist” for whatever reason, why should you go against your best interests on the other issues and vote against someone who is allegedly a “racist”? Exactly what do you mean by “overseeing”? As I understand it, the counties register voters, set up the polls, count the votes, and send the results to the SOS. What does the SOS do? In all probability, the county is responsible for sending drop cords to the polling place, not the state. It would be helpful if you have a source from a government website to detail this. So many people become instant experts when discussing this issue. Another confusing issue is deletion of inactive voters. Is this done by the county, the state, or a combination of the two? If it is a combination, how do we tell who does what? If you look at the various county websites, you will see that the county clearly does registration and counting. This is what Fulton County says. However, if you don’t vote, eventually you should be taken off the rolls. ~ Mr. Kemp, are you removing black voters from the voter rolls just so you can win this election? … And these lists are violently racially prejudiced. … He has closed stations in neighborhoods of voters of color, in Atlanta, for example, in the 6th Georgia Congressional District. He will be the one—when people go to the polling stations and find they’ve been purged, and they fill out those provisional ballots, it will be Brian Kemp who decides whether they get counted. Absentee ballots—you just heard how panicked he was about the massive number of absentee ballots coming in from voters of color, from Democrats. And he’s going to be able to decide which of those ballots get counted. ~ This is the story of the mass exodus from Georgia that never happened, and the mass purge of voters by Kemp, GOP candidate for governor, through methods guaranteed to disproportionately take away the vote from the young, the poor and voters of color…. Another expert on our team, Mark Swedlund, is not surprised the postcard trick captures Black and poor voters disproportionately. “It doesn’t shock me at all. He used his office to commit voter suppression through propaganda, loopholes and outright lies. He put on a disgraceful masterclass in voter suppression and his legacy as governor should be forever tainted by the well-worn, white supremacist tactics he employed. ~ State officials appear to have singled out black voters in targeted purges. Kemp also canceled or suspended 35,000 voter registrations using Exact Match, a version of Kris Kobach’s notorious Crosscheck program that compares registrants’ information with motor vehicle and Social Security databases. If a single letter, space, or hyphen did not match the database information, the voter application was rejected. FWIW, Mr. Gingrich originally represented a district based in Carollton, in West Georgia. His constituents were getting tired of him. Mr. Gingrich won an election by less than 1000 votes. Then, new districts were created, and Mr. Gingrich moved to Cobb County, and a newly created district. ~ The phrase “affordable housing” is somewhat of a buzz word. I hear it a lot, and very few specifics. God is in the details. Lets focus on “…Invest Atlanta voted to help fund over 400 units of affordable housing” How is this going to work? Are they rental units, or owner occupied housing? Assuming that they are rental, what can we expect the rent to be? Who is it going to be affordable to? How long will the rent be capped at this level? When the controls come off, what will happen? Will these units be maintained properly? Where is this 400unit_AH going to be built? Affordable housing is a great idea, and it is needed. It needs to be carefully planned if it is going to work. ~ Actually, Mr. Davis was shot after a heated argument. Going off on an armed man is not a good idea. His killer is in prison. Lucy McBath is to be praised for defeating Karen Handel. Her campaign was careful in the way they described the death of Mr. Davis. Tom Robinson should do the same. ~ I am hearing that it is the counties, not the state, that count the votes. I don’t know who processes voter registration, and maintains the voter lists, but I strongly suspect it is the counties. The decision to sequester voting machines was made by Fulton, Dekalb, and Cobb counties. This has been a good issue for the Democrats. They almost won the election because of it. If Mr. Kemp had the political sense to resign after the primary, the Democrats would not have had this issue. ~ Oops! You blew up the Internet.
