Mental Illness

The repubs still think it is 1952. This video is typical of the Gross Old Perverts. … On a more serious note, another disturbing trend has been spotted. Three Presidents in recent memory have had two daughters, one wife, and no sons. This is the combination achieved by BHO. It is one wife fewer than JSM. The other recent Presidents with two daughters were Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, and George W. Bush.

This content was originally published July 26, 2008. … There is a fine mp3 site called The Aquarium Drunkard. Today he put up some selections from a man I saw once, Roy Buchanan. His name had the dread phrase “the late” in front of it. This is news to me, twenty years after the fact. It seems like August 14, 1988, his substance abuse issues got him locked up. A few hours later, he was found hanging by his shirt. … Mr. Buchanan opened for the Jefferson Starship at the Omni in 1976. He was a technical virtuoso, making sounds …

… I would look at New Yorker magazine at newstands. There is a list of cartoonists who had cartoons in that issue, in the order of appearance. I would look for Charles Addams, who drew the cartoons that were the basis for the Addams Family. He liked to say that he modeled Uncle Fester on himself. Sometime in the late eighties, I noticed that he no longer had cartoons in the magazine. I continued to look until about 1991, when I found a book about him. The reason I didn’t see cartoons anymore was that Mr. Addams died September 29, 1988.

She is following in the footsteps of Zell “Zig Zag” Miller, who abandoned the Democratic Party to shill for Republicans. Miss McKinney has a reputation as a loose cannon. Her strong stand against the War in Babylon is most appealing. She is probably no more capable of dealing with the mess there than BHO or JSM. If you want to make a protest vote against the killing, she is your lady. Her vice presidential candidate is Rosa Clemente, a “hip hop activist”. …

… When questioned about the seamier aspects of hip hop culture, Miss McKinney replied that he was thinking about corporate hip hop. Cynthia Ann McKinney does not have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting elected. The most she can hope to do is siphon votes away from one of the two corporate candidates. To her credit, she seems to have a new hairdo. Gone is the Alfalfa looks, replaced by a more conservative appearance. As far as the hair issue goes, she is a clear winner over BHO and JSM. If you want to help Miss McKinney

This content was originally published July 22, 2008. … Todays adventure in digitilogy started a couple of weeks ago. Word came in that Rush Limbaugh had signed a contract for $400 million. That kind of money will buy a lot of painkillers. I question whether Rush was a good investment for that sort of coinage. His popularity seems to have peaked about the time of the Gingrich revolution. At fourteen minutes and counting, someone thinks the last thirty seconds of his fame is worth nine digits of loot. … A technorati looksee yielded a few stories about Micheal Savage. …

… Mr. Savage is not from the south. His former last name is Wiener. And he is like a kid who shouts cuss words at dinner, and loves the attention that he gets. He outdid himself lately, talking about autism. ”I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life.” …

… I can’t spill too many details, but I know a bit about mental illness. I have sat in on many “what can we do”conversations. There are a lot of unknowns, and perhaps some things could be handled better. But that does not excuse a man, who should know better, for trashing a lot of decent families. A blog posted a piece called ” “This is why Michael Savage is the most hated conservative in America.” And someone left this in the comment thread: ” cant believe no one believes in free speech anymore… all of you so called conservatives.” … Pictures today are from The Library of Congress. This is one incident, in one forgotten war. Multiply this incident as many times as you like, and you get an idea of the damage we are doing. There are stories coming from Afghanistan. Here is one more. Now as then, the problem is not hatred of the west, so much as a dislike of foreign troops swaggering around and making themselves odious to the very people they are meant to be helping. On the return journey, as we crawled back up the passes towards Kabul, we got stuck behind a US military convoy of eight Humvees and two armoured personnel carriers in full camouflage, all travelling at less than 20 miles per hour. Despite the slow speed, the troops refused to let any Afghan drivers overtake them, for fear of suicide bombers, and they fired warning shots at any who attempted to do so. By the time we reached the top of the pass two hours later, there were 300 cars and trucks backed up behind the convoy, each one full of Afghans furious at being ordered around in their own country by a group of foreigners. Prophet Not Without Honor

As a recovering Baptist living in the south, this is not the viewpoint I am familiar with. The type of Jesus that gets shoved in your face in Georgia, on a daily basis, is more emotional, less intellectual, and with even less appreciation of silence. The modern church is in dire need of silence. Many of these people are afraid of silence. They keep shouting, as if they were afraid of what will happen when they no longer have the floor.

This content was originally published June 25, 2010. … Those thoughtful patriots at townhalldotcom have compiled a list of 100 Americans that “the left hates”. I am not sure if I am a leftie or not, but find hating someone I have never heard of to be a bit silly. Seeing Amboy Duke (72) and Joe Buck (71) on the list was bizarre. Then again, there was the pride is seeing Macon’s Erick Erickson (96) making good. I once drove a delivery truck, and listened to talk radio. The announcers I knew then did not do well. Neal Boortz did not make the list. …

… Laura Ingraham was 17, which is a shock to anyone who has listened to her. Michael Medved, the rudest person this side of Bibi Netanyahu, was 73, and Mike Gallagher was 90. This custom of recycling from a green box has enriched the lives of millions, and Oxy Contin abuser Rush Limbaugh thinks there should be more. “There’s another place if none of these options work to find food; there’s always the neighborhood dumpster. Now, you might find competition with homeless people there, but there are videos that have been produced to show you how to healthfully dine and how to dumpster dive” …

Sarah Palin does not share this enthusiasm for green box recycling. Mrs. Palin was hired to speak at a California college recently, and some were offended by the honorarium. Students found the contract for the Palin show in a trash can, and publicized the details. In her speech, Mrs. Palin said “Students who spent their valuable, precious time diving through dumpsters before this event in order to silence someone … what a wasted resource,” She did not express her opinion of students looking for twinkies and ding dongs in the refuse facility. …

Mick Jagger Fag Dancing

This content was originally published June 30, 2010. … There is a common surgical procedure called rhinoplasty, or nose job. When nature gives too much of a good thing, the plastic impulse is to reshape and reduce. This is the opposite of the boob job, where the general concept is the add on. What nature has forgotten, stuff with cotton. Rhinoplasty sounds like RINO, or republican in name only. While purists might want those with inconvenient opinions surgically stricken, this only sounds the same. There is an H in the mix … where rinoplasty would get the h out, the nose job has the h left in. …

… Both expressions have the same origin as Rhinoceros. As Erica Jong once noted, if you place the bobbed noses in Los Angeles end to end, it might go all the way back to Poland. Going in reverse order, a botched nose job played a key role in Skin Tight, a Carl Hiassen story. (All his books tell the same story, with different weirdos and ecological outrages). A doctor was performing a “routine” r-plasty, while listening to a Miami Dolphins game on the radio. At the point of the procedure when he breaks the patients nose with a hammer, someone scored a touchdown. …

… The doctor celebrated by slamming the hammer down a bit too hard, the chisel went into the persons brain, and killed him. The body was disposed of, by a landscaper with a grinder. Which brings us back to “Even Cowgirls Get The Blues”. While Tom Robbins has similar books, only one has Sissy Hankshaw Gitche, the girl with the huge thumbs. When Sissy was a girl, her parents took her to a plastic surgeon, with the hopes of making her normal. A normal person in a Tom Robbins novel ? After many adventures, Sissy returned to her hometown, and looked for the plastic surgeon. …

As Jann Wenner tells the story, The Who played a show in San Francisco, and Pete Townsend did not smash his guitar. Wenner went backstage to ask him why. The result was the first Rolling Stone Interview. Modeled after the Playboy Interview, this became a feature of the magazine. I bought my first copy of Rolling Stone in 1971. It had the interview with John Lennon. This became a part of the Lennon legend, with its comments about Mick Jagger and his fag dancing. …

… Rolling Stone was different in the early days. It was printed on cheap newsprint, and had a lot more to read than today. It was The Great Speckled Bird on steroids. Thirty eight years later, a slick compilation of interviews turns up at the library. The book has a few highlights. RS hired Truman Capote to cover a tour of the Rolling Stones. For whatever reason, TC never produced any product. Andy Warhol comes to visit, and brings a tape recorder. They go to Central Park. Mr. Capote does not think Mick Jagger can sing. Later, they go for drinks. …

… Neil Young was drunk when he made “Tonights the Night”. Oriana Fallaci would ask Jesus if he slept with Mary Magdalene. Miss Fallaci would like to find the grave of Jesus, and see if it is occupied. Joni Mitchell played Bob Dylan a tape of “Court and Spark” and he fell asleep. David Letterman is asked what he is like in a relationship, and he says “moody drunk”. Bill Clinton talked to Richard Nixon a great deal. Nixon admired the way Clinton dealt with the press. And on and on. The library wants the book back tomorrow. It is not worth an overdue fine. Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States to the authors of “original works of authorship” that are fixed in a tangible form of expression. An original work of authorship is a work that is independently created by a human author and possesses at least some minimal degree of creativity. A work is “fixed” when it is captured (either by or under the authority of an author) in a sufficiently permanent medium such that the work can be perceived, reproduced, or communicated for more than a short time. Copyright protection in the United States exists automatically from the moment the original work of authorship is fixed.” From Copyright Basics.

Do You Condemn Hamas?

This content was originally published June 2, 2009. … George Tiller performed abortions. Bill O’Reilly denounced him on national television dozens of times. He was shot in church. In Little Rock AK, a man called Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad opened fire at a military recruiting center. Mr. Muhammad was a convert to Islam, formerly known as Carlos Bledsoe. William Long died as a result of the shooting. From Centurion: “Two killers, two victims. One murder gets twice as many national news stories than the other.“ There was a link to a site called newsbusters, with the motto : “Exposing & Combating Liberal Media Bias”.

This content was originally published June 4, 2009. … There is a post at Obsidian Wings. It is about the responsibility of those who denounce abortion in the most inflammatory manner possible. Certainly, there has been tons of purple prose produced by the anti abortion people. At what point does this translate into the murder of George Tiller? Much of what I have read this week has been along the lines of we denounce violence, but abortion is still horrible. When the bile monger is the Roman Pedophile Church, the hypocrisy scorekeepers have to work overtime to keep up. …

… The killing of Shani Fecht was the sort of “routine” killing that goes without notice. According to the AJC, the alleged killer said after his arrest “Can I ask you a question? Am I going away for a long time? If I do go away for a long time, I would like it [to] be in a hospital.” This alleged killer is Zeke Cordell, the 18 year old son of Mrs. Fecht. Who is supposed to denounce this killing? Those who advocate for the “right” of an apparently disturbed teenager to have access to a rifle? …

This content was originally published June 1, 2009. … The first and third commandments are very underrated, and much violated by Jesus Worshipers. At the very least, to take a text like the Bible and call it the word of God is a violation of the first commandment. The holy trinity business is another rupture of the first commandment. And when preaching results in ill will, that is a violation of the third commandment. The third commandment is more than God’s last name. I see G-d as being like the elements…earth, air, fire, and water. …

… I suffer from what I call “Jesus Fatigue”. Tired of the wrangling, tired of the personal attacks from those who disagree, tired of speculation about life after death, just plain tired. I realize that I have heard almost all of these arguments before, and they don’t make any more sense this time. Jesus Worship is a religion of beliefs rather than practices. These beliefs are based on a book, which is considered the “word of God”. This foundation tends to lead to these endless arguments, and the anger and alienation that comes with them. …

… I see Jesus in the words and deeds of those who believe in him. He is a spirit that lives in these believers. This spirit shares little more than a name with the Jew who lived in Palestine 2k years ago. The historic Jesus was killed because he was a troublemaker. His death and reputed resurrection has nothing to do with what happens to me when I die. As Jesus might/might not have said “Forgive them Father, they know not what they do”. Of course, Jesus did not have to deal with the likes of Evangelicals who believe that salvation can be found in gotcha arguments. … Pictures today are from The Library of Congress. Something Is Going On

This content was originally published June 20, 2009. … Something is going on in Iran. There was an election, and the incumbents had the bad taste to announce the results before the polls had closed. To hear them tell it, the presiding President, and fashion icon Mahmoud Ahmedinejad won a landslide. The supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi do not agree, and have been expressing themselves in the streets. It is getting nasty. The genuine power in Iran is a cleric named Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Exactly how much power the President has is a tough call. …

The Iranian people have had a wild ride. They threw out the Shah, aka the Persian Saddam. They held Americans hostage at the embassy. They were invaded by Iraq, who was supported by the United States. A gruesome eight year war followed, with the United States and Israel cynically selling weapons to Iran. In the past few years, next door enemy Iraq was conquered. An unfortunate man was elected President of Iran. When he ran for reelection, the people decided it was time for another revolution. … With neighbors like Iraq, Israel, and the Stan countries, is it any wonder that some in Iran want the bomb? …

The lead quote:“He was an actor, and he understood there was somebody who planned the lighting, somebody who built the set and wrote the script.” Meanwhile, in Cairo, the Reagan of the new age gave a speech. BHO has this thing about blockbuster speeches. While America is getting bored, the rest of the world is a fresh audience. If this speech does for USA-Islam relations what his race speech did for black-white relations …

… A blogger called Sandmonkey copped a ticket to the Cairo speech. His take: “The speech was everything was expected and more. The guy achieved his goals and executed it effectively and brilliantly. It was big on comfort and platitudes, and short on substance, but really, what does one expect other than that from an Obama speech? If you are going to see Obama, you are going to watch an expert showman. Just don’t expect much beyond entertainment.” SM then left the hall, and was confronted with the spectacle of code pink, carrying signs about Israeli conduct in Gaza. …

… This might be more appropriate than you think, considering the help Egypt has given Israel in the Gaza Roast. And some still say that Israel is the only ally America has in the Middle East. … There is more to report, but between the internet, cable television, and the surviving newspapers, Chamblee 54 is confident you can keep up. This content was originally published June 1, 2016. … There was a tasteful meme on the facebook thingie today. It was about BHO, who may go down in history as the Meme President. The block of JPG text began When a faithfully married black president … (text of 91 words)

Some people quote the first sentence in a situation like this. In this rant, the first sentence has 91 words. It has more grammar mistakes than a sportscaster seminar. It boils down to: when A is considered B by C who D. And what does D do next? Those 91 words are an insult to the Queen’s English. (91 is the product of 7, a lucky number, multiplied by 13, an unlucky number.)

There are eight more words at the end. “This is white supremacy folks. Plain and simple.” A comma might help in the sentence. Does he mean that the two players in the 91 word sentence are “white supremacy folks.”? Or is the author calling the attitude described “white supremacy”.? In any event, “Plain and simple” is not a complete sentence, nor does it describe the 91 word sentence.

This is a case where the medium is as important to the story as the message. When looking for information about the meme, I typed “When a faithfully married black president who was the son of a single mother” into the wonder window. The algorithm replied:
“Did you mean: When a faithful married black president who was the son of a single mother.”
The first reply was from the dependable PuffHo, This Is Not White Supremacy. It made some good points. A few spots down the google page, we see THIS IS NOT WHITE SUPREMACY. That is the original posting of the commentary. PuffHo aggregated it, without paying the original author.

So mush much for the medium. Lets look at the message. BHO, as you may know, is mixed race. The “single mother” of the piece was white. To our racially obsessed culture, this means black. America has had nine years to get over the ethnicity of BHO. It has failed miserably. To some, any criticism of BHO is racist. They mindlessly defend anything BHO does, and say that the critics are members of the KKK. Others are upset because a dark skinned man is in the White House. To these people BHO can do nothing right, because he has dark skin.

Either way, the people who see the skin, and not the man, are doing America a disservice. After January 20, 2017, we will find some other mindless excuse to trash our leaders. (UPDATE: It is so, so easy to find fault with DJT JRB
DJT.) This is how politics works. You say whatever you can think of that is negative about the opposition. You gloss over the negativity of your own side. After a while, a lot of people don’t believe a word that either side is saying. When everyone is shouting, nobody is heard. This is politics. The generalizations are plain, and the minds are so, so simple.

There is an attitude among some that “racism” is a metaphysical evil. The R monster must be defeated. Collateral damage is not a problem. If you are going to make an omelet, you need to break eggs. When I hear talk like this, I feel like an egg.

One problem is that everyone has their own idea of what “racism” is. They are correct, and you are mistaken. To some, it is systemic institutional oppression. To others, it is cultural appropriation and microaggressions. Some cynics say that “racism” is anything that rubs you the wrong way. Agree or disagree, you need to check your privilege.

I saw a video last week, A Rant Against an Anti-Millennial Rant. “And we use words like “racist” to describe someone who thinks that the word “bae” isn’t real because it didn’t originate from a white, Eurocentric vernacular.” These are strange times.

If you are getting itchy, this is almost over. If you like, you can skip over the rest, and look at the pictures. They are from The Library of Congress. Image #06663: “Fifth International Pageant of Pulchritude and Eleventh Annual Bathing Girl Revue, Galveston, Texas, August 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 1930”

UPDATE: This is a repost. While looking over the text, I saw a paragraph about an obnoxious video. It turns out the video features Dylan Marron, who says “And we understand that surface gestures are totally cool but they do nothing to dismantle systemic patriarchy.”

Alleged comedian Bill Maher got in trouble this week for saying a forbidden word on TV. A national hissy fit resulted. This communal pearl clutching is an example of a surface gesture. Screaming “MOMMY HE SAID THE N-WORD” does nothing to dismantle systemic patriarchy.

Carrie Prejean Boller

Posted in Library of Congress, Undogegorized by chamblee54 on June 18, 2025

Most Of This Is Real appeared on chamblee54 on May 1, 2009. It is about Carrie Prejean, Miss California in the 2009 Miss USA beauty pageant. There was a fuss, after she said marriage should be between a man, and a woman. Public nuisance Perez Hilton was a judge, and had a disruptive hissy fit. Miss Prejean made some noise of her own. The mini-scandal got fifteen minutes of attention.

Finally, Miss Prejean was fired as Miss California. The Miss USA pageant was owned by Donald Trump, and the headlines were predictable: Donald Trump to Miss California: You’re Fired! There were some zesty pictures taken. Miss Prejean filed a lawsuit, settled, and wrote a book: “Still Standing: The Untold Story of My Fight Against Gossip, Hate, and Political Attacks.”

After seeing the 2009 post, I wondered what happened to Carrie Prejean. A quick Google search turned up an Instagram spot, “carrieprejeanboller. Carrie Prejean Boller Miss CA USA 2009 👸 1RU Miss USA 2009 Author: Still Standing Mother❤💙 Wife of NFL QB Kyle Boller🏈 Trump Campaign Advisory Board Member @womenfortrump20 maga-mamas moms night in nc april 30.” @BethanyHudsonNC Calling all you MAGA MAMAS! @susantillis will be joining @heytana, @carrieprejean1, and me tonight! #WomenForTrump #NCBoots #LeadRight RSVP now to reserve your spot @carrieprejean1 “Can’t wait!!!!”

Kissed and made up! Runner-up Miss USA Carrie Prejean swoons over Trump at rally after she accused the New York Times of ‘twisting’ quotes for ‘hit piece’ on The Donald. · Fast forward to 2016. Mrs. Boller makes a splashy appearance at a Trump rally. This is despite some unflattering things she said about “The Donald” in her book. ‘They took a little tiny thing from my book and they twisted it. … And if they would have actually read on, I talk very highly of Mr. Trump. I don’t say anything negative about him. … Just below what they quoted, on page 68 [of her book], I said that most of us respect Donald Trump and he’s an amazing businessman and leader. Why didn’t they put that in the piece?”

The NYT piece has some juicy quotes. “His level of involvement in the pageants was unexpected, and his judgments, the contestants said, could be harsh. Carrie Prejean, who was 21 when she participated in the Miss USA contest in 2009 as Miss California, was surprised to find Mr. Trump personally evaluating the women at rehearsal. “We were told to put on our opening number outfits — they were nearly as revealing as our swimsuits — and line up for him onstage.”

“Donald Trump walked out with his entourage and inspected us closer than any general ever inspected a platoon. He would stop in front of a girl, look her up and down, and say, “Hmmm.” Then he would go on and do the same thing to the next girl. He took notes on a little pad as he went along. After he did this, Trump said: “O.K. I want all the girls to come forward.” … It became clear that the point of the whole exercise was for him to divide the room between girls he personally found attractive and those he did not. Many of the girls found the exercise humiliating. Some of the girls were sobbing backstage after he left, devastated to have failed even before the competition really began to impress “The Donald.”

While promoting her book, Miss Prejean appeared on the Larry King show. She did not make a good impression. Miss California USA Executive director Keith Lewis released a statement. “The public is finally getting a glimpse of the real Carrie Prejean who lives in her own delusional world. The childish behavior, her negative attitude, the sarcasm and condescending tone, the disrespect and continual lying she is demonstrating now is only a fraction of what we endured during her reign and after. Anyone who buys her book is supporting a woman who is actually the opposite of everything she claims to be. I sincerely hope she is able to get the psychological help I believe she has shown to clearly need.” … Pictures today are from The Library of Congress. Marion Post Wolcott took the social media picture in September 1939. “Combination filling station, garage, blacksmith shop, grocery store. Frank Petty, owner of the wagon, has just had his mule shod, his corn ground, purchases some kerosene and is returning home. R.F.D. Be Not Curious About God

Posted in Library of Congress, War by chamblee54 on June 13, 2025

Beautiful that war, and all its deeds of carnage, must in time be utterly lost;
That the hands of the sisters Death and Night,
incessantly softly wash again, and ever again, this soil’d world:
…For my enemy is dead—a man divine as myself is dead;
I look where he lies, white-faced and still, in the coffin—I draw near;
I bend down and touch lightly with my lips the white face in the coffin.

Reconciliation was written by Walt Whitman. During the War Between the States, Mr. Whitman served as a volunteer nurse in Washington DC hospitals. That hospital was full of the human cost of war. Mr. Whitman looked past the so-called causes … slavery, states rights, banker profits … and saw the price paid, by the men who fought.

In 1862, Whitman received word that his brother George had been wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg. During the worst, he traveled down to the Virginia battle site. Much to Whitman’s relief, he found that his brother had sustained only minor injuries. While he was there, Whitman was moved by an especially brutal scene. … He records a dramatic moment where he’s standing in front of this field hospital and sees at the foot of two trees a pile of amputated limbs. He says, “A full load for a one horse cart.” And these are limbs that had been thrown out the windows of the surgery in the haste of the battle and the emergencies.”

Walt Whitman emerges as a type of Jesus figure. His words are analyzed 150 years later, looking to find a meaning that pleases 2023 America. At least Mr. Whitman left a written record, in English. This does not prevent him from being misrepresented.

Song of Ourselves? Walt Whitman and the American Imagination” talks about Mr. Whitman living in Brooklyn before the War, and how he came to be involved in that conflict. At some point, the hosts talk about … a framed quote, “Be curious, not judgmental.” I was curious about the context, and did a little digging. There are plenty of meme-mongers selling this quote. This does not answer the question … how did Walt Whitman come to say this?

Wikiquotes lists BCNJ as Disputed. “While consistently attributed to Whitman, this popular motivational quote has no source. It is occasionally listed as occurring in Leaves of Grass, but the closest phrase found in that collection is “Be not curious about God.”

And I say to mankind, Be not curious about God,
For I who am curious about each am not curious about God,
(No array of terms can say how much I am at peace about God and about death.)

I hear and behold God in every object, yet understand God not in the least,
Nor do I understand who there can be more wonderful than myself.

Why should I wish to see God better than this day?
I see something of God each hour of the twenty-four, and each moment then,
In the faces of men and women I see God, and in my own face in the glass,
I find letters from God dropt in the street, and every one is sign’d by God’s name,
And I leave them where they are, for I know that wheresoe’er I go,
Others will punctually come for ever and ever.” … Song of Myself, Part 48.
