Weak Tweak
Kelly Clarkston likes to sing “Whatever doesn’t kills you makes you stronger.” This might be the only thing she agrees with Friedrich Nietzsche. This concept is good for books, and hit singles, but it doesn’t always work in the real world. What doesn’t kill a person might indeed make that human stronger. However, when you attack a weak idea, sometimes you make it less powerful.
Before the invasion of Babylon, Dick Cheney appeared on “Meet the Press.” “the people of Iraq … will welcome as liberators the United States”. A few hundred thousand dead Iraqis later, very few people believe this. The weak idea is dead, just like the American economy.
The quote appears to be genuine. Mr. Nietzsche wrote a book, Ecce homo, Wie man wird, was man ist, with the chapter, “Why I Am So Wise.” At some point he says “was ihn nicht umbringt, macht ihn stärker” “What does not kill him, makes him stronger. ” Mr. Nietzsche also wrote “Gott ist tot! Gott bleibt tot! Und wir haben ihn getötet.” “God is dead ! God remains dead! And we have killed him.”

Congratulations on your first place this past time.
Thank you. Technically, it was second place, and they got my name wrong. Still, it is fun to win something.
Yes, I went back to check and saw that. Sorry to have missed the detail but congrats anyway.
I love how well-informed you are and the angle you picked. I really enjoy reading solid pieces like this! Also, congrats on your win! :)
Mr. Google, and his aunt Wiki, deserve the credit.
well I say their lawyers Selection & Presentation had more hand in it than they’ll admit ;)
Also, do you take your own photographs for these pieces?
Some color pictures I take. Mug shots are from Gwinnett County, GA. Historic pictures are from The Library of Congress. and “The Special Collections and Archives,Georgia State University Library”.
Oh, okay. And the effects?
I usually do the editing and altering of photographs. However, in this collection, what you see here is what was on display during that performance.
I see. I’m sorry if I’m bugging you, I’ve just always admired your pictures-piece-pictures format: it’s like a video-story almost. Just thought I’d ask. :) take care.
Actually, it is a compliment to be interested. Thank you. There are pages on my blog…GIMP, and Historic Pictures, that go into a bit of detail. BTW, GIMP is a free download. I am totally self taught. The only thing you have to invest is your time.
Oh that’s really cool, I think I might look into that. Thanks! :)
Even if you don’t go overboard with the artistic thing, you can make basic improvements to most photographs. Crop, adjust levels, and color balance will improve most pictures.
Yeah, I think I’ll go take a look as soon as I go online from a computer. Sounds pretty useful. Thanks for the advice.
Any piece that references Kelly Clarkson, Dick Cheney and Nietzsche in one fell swoop of awesomeness is so very worth the read. Love this, and as usual, you’ve given us something to make us think.
I prefer pop-up books to pop songs.
What about pop up ads?
Thanks for linking up with Trifecta. My brother has a funny saying that he kind of lives by: What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. Except strokes. The truth is often that we get weaker the more hits we take. Which makes more sense.
I’m going to change your linked name on our post to Chamblee54, which is, I presume, how you’d like to be credited. Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly if we don’t get it right the first time.
Thank for the link correction. Chamblee is the town I live next too. I was born in 1954. The two parts of the handle go together.
