Jack Delano took the social media picture in January 1940. “Italian metal worker at the Correct Manufacturing Company in Fallston Pennsylvania.” · This is the monday morning reader for a boring week. The picture below: “Italian metal worker at the Correct Manufacturing Company in Fallston Pennsylvania.” · Jack Delano took the social media picture in January 1941. “Croatian steelworker in union hall in Midland, Pennsylvania” · In an interview with US journalist Chris Hedges, (United Nation’s special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca) Albanese, an expert in international law, concluded: “The genocide in Gaza has not stopped, because it is lucrative. It’s profitable for far too many.” · By 2009, Cynthia McKinney was no longer in congress. She still had her touch for controversy. She was arrested by Israeli police for trying to bring supplies into Gaza. Some things never change · Darryl is describing what he saw Americans doing in the Saudi-Yemen war. “And I don’t think I’m divulging any classified information here or anything. And honestly, like, with something like this, like, I just, I don’t. I don’t particularly care. I guess nobody ever told me not to talk about it. But when the Saudi war and UAE war on Yemen was going on, and every day you’re reading in the paper of kids literally starving to death, of kids dying of very preventable, very treatable diseases by the tens of thousands on a regular basis. And we would be interdicting… smugglers coming from Baluchistan and other places, trying to come in and out of Yemen. And we’d stop their Dows and small boats and we’d, you know, board them and search them and so forth. And when this was going on, I wasn’t a part of the crew. I was a civilian Department of Defense employee. And. But I go out on deck and I kind of watch these things go down… And I can’t tell you how many times, eventually it was one too many times, I would read one of those stories about what was going on in Yemen, and then we’re, you know, 100 miles off Yemen, stopping a boat that’s coming into that country that has nothing on it but medicine and watching everybody dump it into the ocean. and then everybody kind of celebrating like we just won another big victory, you know? And it got to the point where, again, it was just one too many times I couldn’t sleep at night. It was a big factor of why I left the job. It’s just. And, and, and, and I want to be very clear. I don’t indict the… sailors who were carrying out the mission.” · Pictures today are from Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library. The social media picture was taken January 1, 1949. Alberts Cancellation Shoes, 240 Peachtree Street, Atlanta. Today, 240 Peachtree is the Atlanta Merchandise Mart. · Today we take a look at two things I have done. On July 4, 2009, I was trying to clear kudzu off abandoned railroad tracks, in what would become the beltline. In July 2010, I went to a house party. The potted plants were complaining that the stereo was too loud · Pictures today are from Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library. The social media picture was taken September 23, 1952. · In 2010, the Prime Minister of Great Britain called for an end to the blockade of Gaza. Israel replied by blaming Hamas · Marion Wolcott Post took the social media picture in November 1939. Untitled photo, possibly related to: Itinerant preacher spreading “religion” to farmers outside warehouse while tobacco auction sales are going on. Durham, North Carolina · In 2010, Anne Rice “left Christianity” with a facebook post. I had a few opinions of my own · Howard Liberman took the social media picture in September 1942. “On board a fishing vessel, out from Gloucester, Massachusetts. Fishermen on the deck, washing up with a hose” · Every Night For A Thousand Years is a story about Walt Whitman’s time as a caregiver during the War Between the States. ENFATY, written in the voice of Mr. Whitman, appeared on The New Yorker podcast · “Union Colonel Richard Hinton met Whitman at Armory Square Hospital while recovering from a bullet wound suffered at Antietam … “When this old heathen came and gave me a pipe and tobacco, it was about the most joyous moment of my life. Walt Whitman’s funny stories, and his pipes and tobacco were worth more than all the preachers and tracts in Christendom. A wounded soldier don’t like to be reminded of his God more than twenty times a day. Walt Whitman didn’t bring any tracts or bibles; he didn’t ask if you loved the Lord, and didn’t seem to care whether you did nor not.” · Today’s contribution to the collected wisdom includes Coal mine safety, the Westboro Baptist Church, and bumper stickers · Consult is the base word of consultant. Consult can mean the dispenser of knowledge, or the act of seeking out this supply. There is usually money involved. When you glue on ant, as in insect … your aunt might be a consultant, but the u is not included … consultant adds another proprietary layer to the equation. Sometimes the exchange of information for money takes on a new level of professionalism. A person of my acquaintance was once in the business of entertaining gentleman callers, on a quid pro quo basis. She called herself a consultant. When you think about it, this is not as much a stretch as some would think. A meeting with an attorney is called a consultation, and sex worker is one of the kinder things that people call lawyers. Especially if ambulances are involved. · Pictures today are from The Library of Congress. This is your monday morning reader for today. The pictures are soldiers from the War Between the States. We are still trying to get this war thing right, 160 years later. · i exchanged messages once with a man. a4a said he lived four miles away. this went on for several weeks, and he was becoming an asshole. for example, he mentioned in passing once that he was jewish. a few weeks later, I said happy easter, and he went off because I TOLD YOU I WAS JEWISH. so anyway, instead of north druid hills road, he lived in connecticut · Some state laws taking effect July 1: Roadside Pet Sales Banned – HB 331 No more selling dogs or cats from cars or gas stations—only licensed sellers. · Human Composting Legal – SB 241 An eco-friendly burial option: bodies can now be composted into soil. · Fluorescent Pink Hunting Gear Allowed – HB 167 Blaze pink is now a legal alternative to orange for deer hunting safety. · State Stew Named – HB 233 Designates Brunswick stew as Georgia’s official state stew. · Russell Lee took the social media picture in November 1939. “Turkey pickers waiting for work to start. Cooperative poutry plant, Brownwood, Texas”. These pictures are in the public domain. · Comic Dave Smith came to the attention of many of us when Douglas Murray bested him in a viral debate on Joe Rogan’s podcast a couple of months ago. He’s a libertarian anti-interventionist who is a huge fan of the noxious amateur historian Darryl Cooper. He is not the most important or sophisticated anti-Israel, anti-interventionist voice out there, but he has a following and is representative of how and what his camp argues. It is, in short, not impressive. There’s a reason that in his debate with Douglas Murray he defended the proposition that you don’t have to know much about a given topic to have valuable things to say about it · Rolling Stone was different in the early days. It was printed on cheap newsprint, and had a lot more to read than today. It was the Great Speckled Bird on steroids · “Have you ever wondered who the sexual link between Edward Carpenter and Allen Ginsburg was? Wonder no more, and meet Gavin Arthur: grandson of US President Chester Allan Arthur, astrologer, sexologist, Irish Republican, sometime Communist, sometime Democrat, Haight-Ashbury hippie rabble-rouser, and chaotic bisexual.” · Pictures today are from the The Library of Congress. Marion Wolcott Post took the social media post in February 1941. “Juke joint and bar in the Belle Glade area, vegetable section of south central Florida” · Today’s post goes archive diving through 2010. There is a lady preacher, “a nice lady with a nice husband.” Before long, the nice husband was arrested for assaulting her in a parking lot · Pictures today are from The Library of Congress. Russell Lee took the social media picture in April 1942. “Los Angeles, California. Street scene in Little Tokyo” · selah ©Luther Mckinnon 2025 · This was on a blog post that will be published soon. This is one incident, in one forgotten war. Multiply this incident as many times as you like, and you get an idea of the damage we are doing. There are stories coming from Afghanistan. Here is one more. Now as then, the problem is not hatred of the west, so much as a dislike of foreign troops swaggering around and making themselves odious to the very people they are meant to be helping. On the return journey, as we crawled back up the passes towards Kabul, we got stuck behind a US military convoy of eight Humvees and two armoured personnel carriers in full camouflage, all travelling at less than 20 miles per hour. Despite the slow speed, the troops refused to let any Afghan drivers overtake them, for fear of suicide bombers, and they fired warning shots at any who attempted to do so. By the time we reached the top of the pass two hours later, there were 300 cars and trucks backed up behind the convoy, each one full of Afghans furious at being ordered around in their own country by a group of foreigners. Every day, small incidents of arrogance and insensitivity such as this make the anger grow. · From 2009: This compendium of commodity wisdom uses male oriented terms. I realize that more than half of humanity is female. However, the english language is clumsy. Words like their and people just don’t sound right. For today, I will say he and him. · @chamblee54 This post references a 2009 post by @avitable Re the original post: “Sorry. this is your weekly reader for this neo-summer monday. The picture below was taken in 1955, at the 14th Street bridge over the expressway · Pictures today are from Special Collections and Archives, Georgia State University Library. The social media picture was taken August 17, 1955. “Phillips 66, Bankhead and Hightower” · 2008 was a simpler time and place. Neal Boortz said we were winning the war in Iraq. Barack Obama was fixing to run against John McCain. Sarah Palin was just another governor. Oil shale was the energy source that was going to end foreign dependence. · My government name is Luther Mckinnon. I write a blog, chamblee54.WordPress.com, along with other unwholesome activities. I have been searching for something I read at the Bilerico blog. The internet archive gave me a list of 10K pages, which I am still not sure I can access. Other search engines are useless. · Anyway, the post involves a young man weaseling his way into meeting his idol, Christopher Isherwood. The young man asks him about gay liberation. Isherwood asks the man who arranged the meeting, do you speak German? The two proceeded to have an exagerrated conversation in German, and the young man was ushered out of the room. · If this doesn’t ring any bells, I would not worry about it. It makes me angry that so many can look away from this and say “well, sorry guys, war sucks.” There’s a kind of racism at work. Arabs and Muslims simply don’t count. Their lives don’t matter. “Atheists reject God, but they don’t understand what they’re rejecting” Do Christians understand the God they are accepting? · @GadSaad I’m not a fan of some of Greenwald’s positions but this is truly reprehensible. Cade was studying for the Catholic priesthood, and can sling big words like a pro. … “when we look at the Bible the Bible can’t precisely say anything because there are so many different exegetical and hermeneutic views of this particular book and that everybody has disagreed historically on it seems like even the most benign detail about a book this big and it seems like you can only say that the Bible says something if you first presuppose that it’s univocal.” This was early in the show, before the audience went to sleep.” · I enjoyed your segment. I have been in so many discussions where people sling out the big words like weapons. It was fun to see one of the good guys using this tactic. I also suspect that you had more viewers than many. I find Dr. P difficult to take, and could only listen to so much. I feel as though many people agree. · I have my own story. I was brought up in the Southern Baptist planet, in suburban Atlanta GA. I became unchristian, had temptations to go back, before working closely with an aggressive, hateful, bully for Jesus. This individual was Black, which adds another layer of weirdness to the thing. · I was forced to examine everything I thought I knew, and came to some ideas. I could go into great detail … God is in the details … but it would not make me happy to do so. · One thing is see is the entire concept of belief. Does it really matter whether or not you believe in the existence of Yahweh? I suspect that dependence on belief is peculiar to Yahweh based religions, and that more practice oriented disciplines, like Buddhism, are not like that. There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one’s head spin. But the way to look really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people’s pain · @DropSiteNews BREAKING: Israeli Forces Kill 12-Year-Old Eyewitness to Rafah Paramedic Massacre – Mohammed Bardawil, 12, was shot and killed by Israeli forces in the Mawasi area of Gaza this week. He was one of the only four surviving eyewitnesses to the Israeli military’s execution of 15 paramedics, rescue workers, and UN staff in Rafah in March 2024. Mohammed had testified that some of the paramedics were shot at point-blank range—“from one meter away.” He was also interviewed by The New York Times for their investigation into the massacre, though his most damning claims were omitted from their final report. He and his father, Saeed Bardawil, were abducted by Israeli officer Major Nikolai Ashurov and his unit during the killings. The two were later forced to assist in the forced evacuation of Tal al-Sultan. The Israeli military later cited their survival as “proof” that civilians were not deliberately targeted—while failing to mention that they were spared for operational purposes. Mohammed had been scheduled for a second round of testimony with investigators, this time with pediatric psychologists present.
