    Makeup scraped off, smile in a bag: I so wish I had written those lines. As always, you’ve bookended your writing with unique (and a tad creepy) photos. Really enjoyed this.

      “smile in a bag” was reworked several times. I went through a lot of versions, to say what I wanted in 33 words. By the time I published it I was sick of the whole thing.

    You really managed to tap into the collective “yes!” with that “smile in a bag” line, but the whole thing–the startling juxtapositions of the images, the punch-packing poem–is brilliant. Congratulations on the win!
