Justice Or Vengeance
A jury in Florida rendered a verdict Saturday night. Some are not happy with this ruling. They were looking for the courts to punish the defendant. To many, justice has fallen through the crack.
The truth is that we have trials for a reason. The howling mob, demanding a pound of flesh, is often mistaken. The system exists to protect people from an unjust prosecution. The mobs have not sat in the courtroom, and listened to the evidence. They have not had to make a decision. It is easy to monday morning quarterback a jury, but tough to be on one. Those six women should be thanked for their service, not told to commit suicide.
Some are urging the federal government to prosecute under hate crime laws. This is where Uncle Sam is not happy with the local ruling, and brings his own charges. This is also known as double jeopardy. It is not a good idea. One trial is enough.
Many of the people demanding government sponsored vengeance are Jesus worshipers. This is the man that Pontius Pilate said had done nothing wrong. The crowd shouted Pontius Pilate down. The crowd bellowed Crucify Him, Crucify Him. Pictures are from The Library of Congress.

Hmm… Well, I don’t agree with the decision either, and not just because I’m a minority myself. I wouldn’t participate in one of these rallies, but some people think doing so is either the most or least they can do; and one has to expect the participants’ soaring emotions (fears of “what if that was my kid?”) and their own memories of racial injustices to lead to some outrageous outbursts.
Wasn’t expecting a political piece while guest-judging this week’s challenge, but it was a welcome change of pace!

I’m completely ignorant as I try never to watch news. Still, this is a moving commentary and every pictures tells a thousand words. So well done.
I was fearing any political/social view pieces this week in the wake of all that has happened. This one, however, is well-written. One quibble though, is the singling out of a religious group at the end. There are a variety of religious or non-affiliated people crying for blood over this.
1- The religious group mentioned dominates the culture of the USA.
2- The story told is central to the belief system of this group.
3- Many of the players in the Florida drama hold to this belief system.
I think many (both sides) are using this trial to further racist agenda. A young man died. People want to understand his death. I still don’t.

The idea that you are comparing George “I killed a black kid after I chased him to prove how White Establishment I am due to my own suffering as a Mixed Race man in Florida” Zimmerman to Jesus Christ is disgusting. “Moving” old pictures (having absolutely nothing to do with the sentiment) or not. Christ supposedly died as part of a much bigger plan AND the Jewish people actually had something to gain (at least apparently) by calling for his death; oh and Jesus didn’t chase and slay a fucking teenager for being in his neighborhood.

We know very little about Jesus. The only things we know are what the Catholic church chose to tell us. Exactly what was he executed for? We don’t know.
So, despite knowing very little you still felt comfortable in making the parallel. You admit ignorance but just keep on yammering, huh? Actually, you can find out a whole lot concerning the myth of Jesus by doing basic study work. You know, cracking a book? Of course if you’d rather be spoon fed by a pontiff, please be my guest. The simple fact is, you are attempting to draw a direct parallel to a murdering impotent husk of an American man with a deified Middle Eastern prophet in order to say that “the law’s the law and that’s that.” I’m not wasting my time here anymore and your attempt at nostalgia is half assery at best.
