there is controversy now about how to deal with the legacy of the Confederacy. There are comparisons to how Germany deals with the legacy of the Third Reich, which are not very helpful. My question: How does France today see Napoleon Bonaparte? His regime was over 200 years ago. Does France see that as a messy part of history, or are they still fighting about it? ~ And a recent book by a couple of queer theorists, called Bad Gays, includes Roy Cohn, Ernst Röhm, Lawrence of Arabia and Hadrian! I was disappointed they only gave me a shoutout as a “professional Bad Gay,” for “When Plagues End.” In their earlier podcast, they placed me somewhere near Röhm in my fathomless gay evil. I’ve been demoted. ~ @houmanhemmati Today, @uscsocialwork sent out this letter announcing that they will no longer use the word “field” (as in “conducting field work”) because it’s perceived as racist. Is this with merit or empty virtue signaling? ~ @lizzo This may be a random time to say this but it’s on my heart.. cancel culture is appropriation. There was real outrage from truly marginalized people and now it’s become trendy, misused and misdirected. I hope we can phase out of this & focus our outrage on the real problems. ~ @RuPaul Derogatory slurs are ALWAYS an outward projection of a person’s own poisonous self-loathing ~ writing in all caps is yelling, we don’t need to talk more we need to listen more, you are entitled to your opinion, science is about doubt and experiments not trust, you don’t have to be a jackass, it is not what you say but how you say it ~ my computer has hundreds of music folders. in a wide variety of genres. many of folders I have no idea what they are. I am going through my collection, and weeding out folders that I will NEVER listen to. How many radio broadcasts of Tom Waits do I need? ~ @AlexBerenson 1/ For those of you who’d rather see the whole Gottlieb #TwitterFiles in a thread… here goes! On August 27, 2021, Dr. Scott Gottlieb – a Pfizer director with over 550,000 Twitter followers – saw a tweet he didn’t like, a tweet that might hurt sales of Pfizer’s mRNA vaccines. ~ More of the Hollywood’s Eve series is available.two ~ George Orwell, Facing Unpleasant Facts: Narrative Essays “that however much you deny the truth, the truth goes on existing, as it were, behind you back.” ~ This change aligns with the Council on Social Work Education Advancing Antiracism in Social Work Education through Educational Accreditation Policies and Standards, the 2021 National Association of Social Work’s commitment to undoing racism through social work, and the Eliminate Racism Grand Challenge for Social Work ~ @markniesse A performance review of Fulton County elections operations recommended against a state takeover Friday, finding that the county has made “significant improvement” since the 2020 election year. ~ @wildethingy The only thing necessary for the triumph of stupidity is for clever people to spend all their time arguing with them on social media. ~ republican tit logic consumes comical explicit speaker ~ mute your microphone so your extra noise, does not pollute the poet girls and boys, new york drops a pass on third down spin, making it likely for minnesota to win, freedom to be a loving peaceful dude, there is nothing cool about being rude, bald headed coach is hollering foul, if his defense fails he is going to growl, product commercial is a deadly blue screen, paying the bills to go make the scene ~ pictures today are from The Library of Congress. ~ selah
