May 6 is a day in spring, with 35% of the year gone by. It has it’s fair share of history, some of which did not turn out well. In 1861, the Confederate Congress declared war on the United States. In 1937, a German zeppelin named “Hindenburg” exploded while trying to land in New Jersey. In 1940, Bob Hope did his first show for the USO, somewhere in California.
In non metric news, in 1954 Roger Bannister ran the first sub four minute mile. The current record is 3:43.13 by Hicham El Guerrouj on July 7, 1999, with a party with Prince to celebrate. Since most track meets now use 1500 meters, the mile record is more or less obsolete.
On this day, Georgia has strapped two notable prisoners onto the gurney of no return. In 2003, Carl Isaacs was put to death. Mr. Isaacs was the ringleader in the Alday family killing, in Donalsonville GA, 1973. Five years later, in 2008, William Earl Lynd was poisoned by the state. This was the first execution after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that execution by poisoning was constitutional.

In every person’s life there two important days. The day they are born and the day they die. I have got an idea that five minutes after death it isn’t important to them how they went. Most would just have liked to put it off a little longer.
I have always heard that everyone wants to go to heaven.(believers and none believers) Still no one wants to die to get there.
I am not opposed to capitol punishment except you are always taking a chance that you have killed a innocent person. Still what really bothers me about capitol punishment is how much it cost.
Even in death the wrong doers punish their victims.

The Big Chicken – wasn’t that the spot where the Cobb Co hangings took place? The last pic is the Brick Store alley in Decatur – an unchanged space for 150 years or so – buildings built w horse and buggie width access between them – cars and trucks move very slowly through here.
I don’t know about the hangings. I know that Leo Frank was processed nearby, at what is now 1200 Roswell Road. Mary Phagan is buried in the Marietta cemetery, adjacent to the CSA graveyard.
