Numerous people have noted that June 17 was the night the “plumbers” were caught in the Democratic National Committee offices in the Watergate complex. A look at the wikipedia entry for June 17 reveals a few more surprises.

There was one entry that forced the publication of this post. On June 17 1943, Newt Gingrich and Barry Manilow were born. Other stork passengers on this day include Martin Bormann (1900), John Murtha (1932) Randy Johnson (1944) ( First quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons) Art Bell (1945) George Clinton (1947) and Jello Biafra (1958, birth name Eric Reed Boucher).

No one in the list of people dying on June 17 caught PG’s eye. This is part of the reason why we have too many celebrities. A possible exception is the 1631 demise of Mumtaz Mahal. Her husband, Shah Jahan I, built the Taj Mahal as a memorial.

1775 saw the battle of Bunker Hill on this day. In 1994, O.J. Simpson was arrested for murder, after a chase on the freeway.
